I just purchased a 2000 BMW Z3 Roadster with 53, 349 mileage. I'm a long time Miata owner, so this is my first BMW and my first non-Miata in 15 years.

The car is is fantastic shape with the exception of the following "little things", that I could use some help/direction/suggestions for resolving. The items/questions are:

1) Loose Interior Door Handle - The interior door handle on the passenger side came loose at the connection "away from the handle". It looks like it "pulled loose" from the screws or whatever else attaches the handle. I got a quote to replace the handle, for $172, but I'd prefer that my car has "original parts", not "replacement parts". So, I'm asking if anyone could recommend a "quick", or "self fix", that I could do? Including any "McGiver" solutions anyone may have used successfully.

2) Worn Spots on Leather Seats - The car has silver exterior and Imola Red leather interior and there are small "worn spaces" on both seats, passenger side where the seat belt "rubbed", and on the driver's seat likely where the previous owner's "wallet rubbed". I'd appreciate any recommendations for repairing these two spots on the seats.

3) Small "Road and/or Rock" marks on the front end, and hood - With the car being 24 years old, it' naturally has a few "scratches and dings", on the front end and hood. I'd appreciate any suggestions or solutions anyone would be willing to share on "how to "touch up" and "fix" small scratches/marks.

Addressing these "small issues" I've listed above is what it will take to advance my car to "immaculate condition", so getting these items addressed/fixed ASAP is my goal. I would greatly appreciate any/all suggestions, solutions, links to videos, or anything else you think might help me in getting these items "fixed" and getting my car to "immaculate condition".

Thank you in advance for any/all help you or someone you know can lend. Respectfully, Dave "New BMW Guy".

Hi Dave, good luck with your project going forward. I took started with a Eunos (Miata) then a Z3 (2000 2.0 ltr), an E85 Z4 and currently an E89 Z4. I'm near Lincoln in the UK so welcome and enjoy. I'm guessing you're in the USA?

Tony.

I'm in Charlotte NC, where the weather is such that you can drive with the top down all year long.

That's a coincidence Dave, I have a guy from NC wanting to buy something from me.
We went to the BMW factory at Spartanburg, SC last year and did the factory tour. A great day, well worth it too.

Tony.

ps. I guess "all year long" is as long as its not raining?=))

We've been in such "drought mode" since Spring, so there have been very few days so far this year where one can't drive with the top down. If you're ever in the Charlotte area, let me know. Would love to see your Z3 and show you mine as well. (see attached photos of interior)

One of the things I quickly learned about my car and about BMW that was a "shock" to me, is that a tonneau cover (i.e., either "soft" or "hard") is not standard equipment, and just how "crazy expensive" the "hard" tonneau cover is. I was "lucky" to find a guy here in NC with a "mint condition" tonneau cover, and that I "talked him down" to $600, which was a "good deal", yet is still was way too expensive in my opinion.

The new ones are listed at $1,050, and there are multiple "used/marred" ones listed on Ebay between $500 and $700 + freight. The "hard" tonneau cover looks great and makes a huge difference on the look of the car, so I'm glad I bought it, but it sure was "crazy expensive".

Please let me know about your Z3 and where you are located.

Respectfully,

Dave "NC Z3 Guy"

I have a Z4 (E89) with a folding hardtop roof as in the picture to the left. I live near Lincoln in the UK Dave. Someone on the forum just sold a tonneau for £100, even with shipping to NC it has got to be worth considering?

Tony.

I posted on this forum to see if anyone had a tonneau cover for sale and I got no response. So, I spent $600.

Looks great, but I bet I could find a factory in China who could produce it for $50 to $70 dollars tops. Oh well.

My son is a huge Arsenal fan. Hopefully they will the league this coming season.

Hello and welcome from South Devon UK:thumbsup:

Tonneau was standard from new but they go missing for some reason 🤔 hence the high premium, mine spends most of its time on a shelf in the garage as the weather in the UK is more…..unpredictable.

Spent a lot of time in NC from 98 to 2011 while my brother in law was working for Volvo trucks out of Greensboro, fell in love with Beaufort/Atlantic Beach and the Outer Banks (I keep an eye on Realtor and do the lotto😁) hope to visit again.

I was in NC in 99 while mine was being built but they weren’t doing factory visits, would of been great to see it on the line.

P,S Aren’t you suppose to have amber corner markers on the front?
