Hi all,
Anyone here fogged an air box?
Anyone here fogged an air box?
@Antm72 has this airbox on his 2,8I have been looking into air boxes lately. The 2.2 and 3.0 L Z3's have a different air box to the other Z3's and a better designed scoop to collect cold air from around the head light area. If it can supply sufficient cold air to the 3.0 L Z3, then it should be an improvement to Z3's with smaller engines.
Still looking for a late model Z3 being parted out locally to get the parts to try it.
My 2.8 has intake it wraps around the rear of the light and forces the air out in only one direction.@Antm72 has this airbox on his 2,8
if you run torque app you can monitor intake air temp.... in real time... its surprising how much the intake air temp goes up when standing stationary, or when the car is left parked up i have see intake air rise to abour 30 degrees when in the sun and stationary in traffic.... normally about 15 degrees dependant on outside temp of course....I suggest that it is worth fogging the box on a 3.0 The reason I say that is I did an experiment using TESTO and air temps. On the same day, same track, almost identical situation [and moving quickly] I got the following results which I conclude means not a whole lot of air is making its way from the outside to the engine bay to the air intake. Not 100% proof but it leans that way. Here it is:
- Ambient air temp is 13 C
- With the fan on the intake is consistently 21 C
- Took fan off and the consistent intake temp went to 40 C.
what was the dyno result before the cone filter...?Just put a massive cone filter on
My car made 205.8 bhp and sounds awesome.
TESTO does that as well as logs information for importing into a spreadsheet. I have semi permanently installed a cable from my under bonnet access point which runs into the cabin and sits under the mat. At any time I can hook up the computer and do the magic! I will certainly run a before and after test when going the fog box.if you run torque app you can monitor intake air temp.... in real time... its surprising how much the intake air temp goes up when standing stationary, or when the car is left parked up i have see intake air rise to abour 30 degrees when in the sun and stationary in traffic.... normally about 15 degrees dependant on outside temp of course....
No idea didn't test is as I don't intend to run a standard airboxwhat was the dyno result before the cone filter...?
I have no idea what you are talking about.............................i have mine permanently hooked up to a bluetooth obd reader and run a switched live to the obd so it turns off when the ignition is off... works great have an old android phone atached to a windcreen mount and usb cigarette lighter charger..,,,
i not tried the testo app i have to have a look for that...
I know that you haven't done this, but beware that...The headlight housing on my 2.8 also has a scoop which directs air towards the air filter. Not massive but certainly some improvement over standard I would have thought.
