Last month I flew down from Scotland to Stansted airport where @Taz Horton picked me up and drove a little to check out my new Z. Not much time to look at the car but the 6.5hr drive home was all i needed to know that this was a really nice car. Handled and pulled perfect. Taz has obviously kept this car very well mechanically over his 8 years of ownership. Any apprehensions I might have had we're forgotten as soon as i could find another car to overtake. I couldn't have specified a nicer car. Whom ever did, back in 1997, i applaud you. She's a beaut.

After a phone call to Taz in March, he accepted my offer, which included a huge amount of good faith on his part and also his desire to keep the car amongst the Z faithful shows the great community spirit in him. Huge thanks to him to make my Z dream a reality. I used to work at my fathers garage on Sundays, (tyres, punctures and lunch-run) and on a walk to the local store on a sunny day a Black BMW Z3 2.8i with red hood sat parked up in perfect condition. Ever since that day, I've always wanted one. With huge thanks to Taz, that is now a reality. Still pinching myself.

With every new owner, comes a fresh impetus to the car. I've been a bit quiet on here of late, but that's not to say I have not been busy. The morning after the 6.5hr drive from Cambridgeshire, i set to work on preparing my current Z for sale. A self-imposed fun embargo on the 'widebody' until Montreal is sold. Over the last few weekends, i've been sproosing the M44 and on Tuesday she was in the hands of her new owner. First to see the M44 bought it. Perfect time to sell in April and thanks to a rare sunny day the buyer didn't take much time.

Just before beginning the days detailing. Dirty but still shining. Non oem badge removal was Stage 1. Quite like the Alpina ones but they are badly worn out. Got new bmw emblems but they don't seem to fit through the holes.eBay special.

The paint work had speckled marks on the front portion of the car. However, clay bar took the contaminants out.

Bonnet after waxing. Reflecting very nicely.

The sun had caught up with me by 6pm with only the rear of the car to be waxed. A candidate for polishing but i prefer waxing instead of taking paint off.

My new neighbour has a Z4 2.0 sdrive. Ying and Yang Zing before i set to work for the days detailing.

Managed to find a new headunit for the z locally and for the small fee i now have a new headunit with Bluetooth, wireless and Auxiliary cable input in the car. Only CD and radio before. However, i'm struggling to get the device to even turn on. Thick black cable went in no problems and two plug and play style ports was all that was installed for the last Alpine headunit and have plugged in the same ones to in again.

One thing i did notice is that the stock bmw female is a circular whilst the new adapter that comes with the car is a rectangular style input. The Headunit plugs in to everything. However, i don't think that with each prong being plugged in, i don't think all the corresponding wires are in the right place to get connection.

Model i have bought is Alpine cde 103BT

Any ideas would be great. Would be nice to play my own music in the car.

Halfords sell numerous wiring adapter cable for car audio. Makes these type of issues go away for about £15.

In turns out I might already have the correct harness just not with the red 12v plugg in the system. Not sure if what I’ve done is a good idea but I have spliced it into the 12v and oranges illumination into one wire that attached to the harness adapter. Will I short the circuit?

Any help appreciated.

Nice set of wheels you have there :DView attachment 100139
Thank you sir. I have the previous owner to thank for the selection. Are you aware of the fitment width and offest of these wheels. I'd be keen to ask what tyre setup you have as well. The offset is a bit of a mystery but id be guessing at 18X8j ET40

You still trying to sort the stereo
I am indeed. Have realised that fuse 9, a little 20a has popped and the spare in the fusebox has been replaced before. I think i'll need another connector to properly do the job too. I couldn't unmount the wire from an unused male connector as i can't quite pry open the chamber to release the wire. It's probably my dodgy impatient connection that's shorted it somewhere and tripped the system.

I do have to say, it sounded excellent for all 30 seconds of music that i got. Will be chuffed when its working. Bluetooth is going to be a big upgrade from cd radio.

You'll get there with a bit of patience :)
It's a virtue i am still to acquire. Hoping Andrew Watt Motor factors will sort me a fuse :)

Despite posting about wheel fitment on another post, I'm about to contradict myself. Been looking at some inspiration. Rondell 0058 17x10R et 15 17X8.5F et 13- . Owner is running 205/45/17 and 225/40/17

I've got some thinking to do already with the Cosmos Z as it would appear the current 18's on the car have had a rough old life with the front right purging it's air 1 week at a time. It looks as though, at least one of the wheels might have been welded from a crack before. The 17's are there to get fresh rubber but with the suspension as it is, It'll be another 1cm lower than it already is according to my calculations with a 225 45 setup.
With at least springs needing replaced soon, it might be worth changing everything all round but its a monumental job. Adjustable coilovers would give the flexibility to change wheels. Seen a few threads and for sale sections with people returning to stock setup. Need to research some possibilities as i'm not looking to make the ride too firm as sadly the UK roads are not up to standards imho, especially with a low profile tyre. JOM's are out of the question.

In a bit of a u turn, i needed to get rid of the 18" currently on the car. Since owning the car the front right has deflated. Over last 2 nights, each night the rear right has leaked to almost empty. Pulled off the wheel to find it in very poor condition. Also surprised to find wheels are 8.5j et41. So my hand has been forced to act quicker than i might have anticipated. Luckily i have a set of 17" wheels in the bubble wrap that i had intended to sell but will now be going on the car. 4 Almost brand new alloys in mint condition and managed to pick up some value for money and ordered 4 Goodyear eagle F1s Asy 5 for only £73 a corner including fitment. Would have liked to have used an independent but online prices are hard to beat. Fitting will be friday afternoon. Instead of a spare we have one wheel already mounted to a scrap part worn to keep her on some air tight wheels for now. God Bless Negative camber.

Not sure what lies ahead for the 18's. They are nice looking wheels however they are in bad condition. Not even sure they are refurbishable as a set especially as they are replicas. Tyres also a bit skinny for the wheels. I was hoping the 18's would last longer for me but i needed to make a move to keep the car usable. Not quite the rondell 58's i was eyeing up but still nice decent quality wheels.

New Shoes and soles all round. Forgot to take a picture of it properly and it's now surrounded by neighbours automobiles. Took pictures of fitment. The gods of negative camber were not kind. I didn't get anywhere near as much negative camber on the front is id hoped. I had fitted the et30's on the front of the old m44 and seemed to get away with it more than i am at the moment. It's v close. Hoping not to shred the outside of my tyres on the plastic arch trim. Need to run them a few miles but i have to say ride quality is instantly better. The garage that i got them fitted has an entrance like the himalayas and after the 17's were noticeably smooth. Don't seem to have any rubbing on lock which there was a bit of.

Need to be careful on speed bumps and potholes as usual. A few fitment pictures. Perhaps this might be of use to someone else. 17x8 ET30 225/45/17 all round. Car was lowered by previous owners so id guess at 40mm. Pretty low.
