Fuel gauge

my 2000 Z3M fuel gauge is not reading correctly, it is working but even when the tank is absolutely full it only read three quarters full.

I’m guessing I might need a new sender? But is there another reason this might happen?

You could try activating the cluster test mode to see if the gauge will move through it’s full range of movement if it doesn’t most likely the sender unit faulty.
