Garage Floor

We're looking at re-doing our garage floor, it's already been painted and getting ready for re-painting so we're thinking about using the PVC tiles. I appreciate it won't be the cheapest solution, but they will look better than the floor in it's current state, which really could do with a skim coat to smooth it out, and it's cheaper than the resin options, which if done properly look really good.

I found a thread from a few years back about garage floors, but just wondered if anyone has used the PVC tiles since then and have any advice and/or recommendations about suppliers.

Never done tiles. Mine was really dusty and lumpy. Ended up doing an epoxy primer for loose and sustained floors followed by the standard grey. Couldn't be happier.

We use 2nd hand office carpet tiles in the ZedShed, cheap to buy in bulk, comfy to lay on, soaks up spills and quick to replace with a fresh one from the cupboard. The ones under the engine and subframe take the worst abuse but usually last a good 6 months unless a serious spill occurs!

@g8jka has just done his with pvc tiles,


I am putting 5mm thick coin rubber matting in mine, part way through at the moment.
It's comfy to work on, warmer and a bit more cushioned for my old knees.

Also a bit less expensive than the tiles,

It smells 'rubbery' in there, but I'm not Chinese

I think I will glue it fully, rather than just the joints, It is extremely heavy and hasn't moved taking the car in and out,
however it moved when I jacked the car up, because it pushed it along,
Looking at some youtube videos, some tend to glue it all over, others just do the joints

Done mine recently with tiles from a company called Fastfloor. Cheapest I could find, garage is almost 6m x 3.2m and cost me £345. All black was £300. They did a deal after contacting through Facebook as they are more expensive on their website. So far, so good and I'm very happy. Floor is no longer cold, looks good and it's easy to clean. Not done any major work on the car in there yet but it stood up fine using a trolley jack.

Done mine recently with tiles from a company called Fastfloor. Cheapest I could find, garage is almost 6m x 3.2m and cost me £345. All black was £300. They did a deal after contacting through Facebook as they are more expensive on their website. So far, so good and I'm very happy. Floor is no longer cold, looks good and it's easy to clean. Not done any major work on the car in there yet but it stood up fine using a trolley jack.

Not noticed any. If you have muddy tyres it will go on them but can easily be wiped off. Also when I've put tyre dressing on the tyres and not driven the car to get any excess off it will transfer onto the tiles, but again easily wiped off. Still waiting for an oil spill to test that! The penny type ones are very easy to sweep, hoover or mop. The checker type not so much I've heard and they are quite uncomfortable to kneel on. These penny type ones are not bad at all to kneel on.

Also if you jacking up or leaving the car on axle stands I put some thin wood underneath to spread the load. A jack / axle stands will mark the tiles depending how long the weight of the car is on them. I left a small mark from the jack but it came out after a couple of hours and you can't see it now.

I had my garage tiled by R-TEK Manufacturing. It looks like a very good quality and cheap tile to me. The garage is 8 m x 4 m and cost me £390. I thought it was a great option. It's easy to clean and looks very nice from the outside. Also, a friend advised me to change the garage door as it looks a bit ugly and the mechanism is a bit screwy. I called Garage Door Service and left a request. The next day I had the gate replaced. As a result, in two days, I completely renovated my garage, and I am proud of it. I wish I could send pictures, you would have loved it!

Went with the pale grey tiles with black ones where the tyres stand. Was relatively quick laying the main area down, but took ages with all the fiddly cuts around the sides.
