Following the debates and criticism of zroadster.net both here and on there by members, I am in an awkward situation and feel a conflict of interest by being a Mod on zroadster.org. and zroadster.net.

I must therefore will give up the Mod position here on zroadster.org.

Best Regards

Gary.

Just wanted to add a few words in appreciation for Gary. :ymhug:

When the site was 'born' 8 days ago I asked Gary for assistance/guidance in moderating the forum. He has given me a good few pointers on the subject which I am grateful for.

I fully appreciate the position Gary is in, and wish him the best!

Sad to see it come to this, people take things too seriously for there own good.

This is a car club forum/website.

Put things into perspective please.

We will be looking for additional moderators in the New Year. As the site grows, we will need extra hands both in the back room and the front of shop. It's not a straight forward role by any means, so beware what you wish for!

I don't have a job spec as yet, but it's not just about patrolling the forums looking for people to moderate. We will be looking for people to help expand the site further, and that means a fair bit of work. It's unpaid as well, so you won't be retiring early on the back of this site s:neutral

I'll post a thread in the New Year with more details once I have collated my thoughts. :-?

Cheers, Gary

Just a suggestion Gary but why not put together some sort of nomination where people can PM you with their nominations then with the consent of the nominees and the understanding of what they are taking on run a poll/vote so the forum gets a "Peoples" choice of moderator. After all we are supposed to live in a democratic society and the members will have been given the opertunity to have a say in how the site is run, you could even make it into an annual event to keep the interest going.

Great idea Aceman! I almost used the word 'recruit' in my first post, but took it out. I personally don't like recruiting people, as I hated telling the unsuccessful bad news!

The mods we appointed so far have strictly been on a need for experience. I've been wracking my brains on the best way for making community decided appointments. I'm thinking that initially we publish a set of criteria for people to consider. We would then ask for a submission as to why you think you would make a good moderator (perhaps 500 words?). A public poll could then be created to allow the appointment to be made.

This process is similar to how a local primary school elects parent governors. The only downside is if people vote for a mate, rather than on the strength of the submission...

Initially I think for 2012 we will need 2 additional mods. As the site grows and becomes more popular we will need more mods, so I guess that an annual appointment is quite possible as well.

Does that sound reasonable? Anyone else have any ideas for a better system?

Sounds good to me, can I also suggest the poll/vote results are kept secret until it has ended so that people don't get drawn to who is getting the most votes and then lets people vote purely based on the the nominees 500 words of "vote for me because". s:D

An annual event would certainly inject some great fun and boost interest in the site. ;)

Briiliant idea, definitely added to the process! Don't think I can keep a poll on the site secret, but I can use an external site or even take email votes.

It gets my thumbs up, all seems very fair.

A clear set of rules and a thorough job description will make the role of the Mods that much more straightforward also.
