Just a suggestion Gary but why not put together some sort of nomination where people can PM you with their nominations then with the consent of the nominees and the understanding of what they are taking on run a poll/vote so the forum gets a "Peoples" choice of moderator. After all we are supposed to live in a democratic society and the members will have been given the opertunity to have a say in how the site is run, you could even make it into an annual event to keep the interest going.
Great idea Aceman! I almost used the word 'recruit' in my first post, but took it out. I personally don't like recruiting people, as I hated telling the unsuccessful bad news!
The mods we appointed so far have strictly been on a need for experience. I've been wracking my brains on the best way for making community decided appointments. I'm thinking that initially we publish a set of criteria for people to consider. We would then ask for a submission as to why you think you would make a good moderator (perhaps 500 words?). A public poll could then be created to allow the appointment to be made.
This process is similar to how a local primary school elects parent governors. The only downside is if people vote for a mate, rather than on the strength of the submission...
Initially I think for 2012 we will need 2 additional mods. As the site grows and becomes more popular we will need more mods, so I guess that an annual appointment is quite possible as well.
Does that sound reasonable? Anyone else have any ideas for a better system?
