Gas strut soft top

Hi all,

Just had this delivered took a while to get here. Just wondering if the end is meant to come off??

It's a gas strut for my manual soft top roof.

I think it is meant to come like that ( someone else may be able to confirm)
I had my zed a few months and was cleaning one day and noticed 2 bits separate just put back together been fine since ( don't know how ended up apart in first place )
