Greetings!

Long time petrol head and forum lover. Sold my ML merc on Monday, picked up my cheap and cheerful Z3 yesterday. Quite a contrast but I drove one back in 97 and knew I'd like it. Fixing a PS fluid lek this morning, then going for a run out to the coast. Car deserves some twisty North Yorkshire roads and a drop of Redex or something to blow away the cobwebs.

Hope I'll be able to contribute something to the forum but for now, just saying hi. Any other members in or around Leeds?

Loz

A big :welcome: from me!

If you have a look at the member map (http://zroadster.org/forum/memberMap/) there is a clump of owners around your neck of the woods. Add yourself to the map if you get chance.

Be lovely to get some more details and pictures on your "cheap and cheerful" ;)

Cheers, Gary

Fortunately in this pic you can't see how badly the bonnet was painted resulting in laquer cracking and blotches... eeewww!!! But cheap and cheerful was the criteria and it is sound mechanically, save for the PS fluid leak... I've just tried some stop leak fluid top up, so fingers crossed. taking it for a run to put my plate on and it is ok, will hit the b roads. already feel tail happy tendencies! early car with no traction control. Smile with every mile!

90 odd thousand miles. Lady Owners and one mid life crisis owner. FSH, solid, rides good. driven 200 miles in first 8hours of ownership mainly M1. Going out for a sunny blat now to "road test" it properly. Hope to find some good roads and come home safely. Its a hoot sitting over the back wheels!

Any thoughts on what I should look at by way of checks and mods?

Nice looking motor, welcome
for mods, maybe wheels, exhaust, decent stereo and speakers.
Other than that pretty much down to what you want

Hi and :welcome:

Great to see an original Z3 that hasn't been modded from it's originality... but you asked about mods - well to start with I would give the car a full service. Have the bonnet reprayed, and give the entire car a good detailing.

I would also paint the brake calipers and carriers black and the flange/ hubs on the brake discs with a heat resistant silver paint - makes the wheels look deeper.

You should consider getting a blanket for the rear screen cover to prevent scratches if one didn't come with the car - a simple towel can also be used.
There one on ebay right now - but it's too pricey - but here's link so you now what I'm talking about:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-B...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27d3c7cf50

Depending on the state of the softtop you should consider giving the soft top a good wash and proofing to keep it in good nick.
A mod that many Z3 drivers have done - and you could do right now is to find and install a set of roll hoops and a Wind deflector. Roll hoops not only look nice but also improve safety for you and a passenger should the car rool over in an accident - I believe someone here is selling a set at the moment, but can't remember who right now. (or was it on .net??). As a Bonus the wind deflector will make it less drafty inside the car driving with the soft top down

Besides from that, there are lots of mods you can do - white indicators, bigger wheels, lowering the car, strut brace, exhaust, other seats, gear knobs, steering Wheel etc..... But personally I would start with getting to know the car before doing to much.....

Enjoy and drive safely :coolsteer)

Hi the mods that i found that actually have given the most pleasure as long as the car is sound are ........wait for it......a new sexy gear knob, and the steering wheel recoverd, nice thick leather£110 and i cant remember what i paid for the knob, easy to do 10 mins to fit and away you go.because you use them every time you get in the car i think the are the best value If you dont want to wait a week for your sterering to come back or dont want to alter your origional £50-70 on ebay and get that one covered

The sun did shine...just not when I got my phone out. Incidentally, each time I got my phone out the MX5 along side sounded it's alarm! Never had that before...Glad it wasn't mine, as mostly surrounded by elderly folks having a quiet snooze...zzz ;o)

How I miss my Red Zed.. Great looking car good colour as well.

Be careful that you don't drive it for too many hours you could end up like these poor drivers:
