My '99 2.8 Z3 was imported in to New Zealand from Japan and subsequently has FM frequencies incompatible with just about the rest of the world. Am trying to source a BMW original UK or USA head unit to keep the car as original as possible and still control the CD unit in the trunk (or boot) depending where you're from. FM frequencies need to be in .1 hertz steps up to about 105. Any clues anyone ? - Cheers, Bob

Hi Grumpy - Thanks for that. The unit I am after is the actual radio head with AM, FM and a CD slot. The cars sold in Japan have radio units with a shortened FM frequency band the only goes up to about 100. The rest of the world goes to about 105 or 106 so the Jap. item effectively cuts out about 40% of the stations in New Zealand and elsewhere. Am trying to get a BMW unit that will still control the OEM CD stacker - Cheers, Bob

Are right, well yes it's runs to 106 but it's a cassette not cd so I'll let you continue your search. There were some on ebay last time I looked.
Cheers

I'm also going back to original but being a 97 a cassette was in place. Being a dinosaur I have boxes of them stuck in boxes in my shop but it will also allow me to use an original 6 PAC unit I got off eBay. So unless you're into changing CD's after each why not stick the cassette unit in and see how you like it.

Hi again Grumpy - Must have been having a "senior moment". When I went and had another look at the Japanese unit in the car - lo and behold - it was a cassette unit not a CD so you were right. (Mine is a '99) The thing I am trying to retain is the ability to control the original six CD stacker so if yours is still available and has the CD controller facility I would be keen. What sort of money are you looking for and what would be the cost on a slow delivery to New Zealand ? Thanks & Cheers, Bob

Hi Bruce & Kim - Thanks for that. Does your unit have the ability to control the BMW (original) six CD stacker unit in the trunk? Cheers, Bob

Hi Bob. Let me do some research on the control function, price and shipping today and I'll send you a PM later.
Cheers.

Did your car have a disc changer in the boot Dave? If it did then I will operate the changer, chances are it will anyhow. They have a large multi connector on the rear.

Thanks for this t-, I've been wondering about this myself as I'm also going back to the original cassette and 6 PAC and don't know how it's controlled. Guess I'm going to find out! JIM

I have the cd bump in the boot but no changer. The car came with a Sony cd in the dash so this unit has always been in the box. Does this look like it will do what bob is after?
