I'm in the process of removing the door handle and I've got to the stage where you need to remove the circular bit of metal from behind the lock. Is there a way of doing this without damaging it? I need to fit the same handle on another door.

Any help would be gratefully received!

Hi Alyson, it looks as though it should unscrew in an anti clockwise direction.

There are some videos on YouTube about these, if you search BMW Z3 door handle removal you’ll find them.

Ive never had one of these in bits so I can’t be certain.

Tony.

Hi Tony

Thanks for getting back to me. The only video I've managed to find on YouTube doesn't actually show how to remove the ring. The chap on the video (bimmer something) shows that he has has removed it but it looks like he forced it off with a flat head screwdriver! I don't knowif there's a specific tool I can use for removing it.

All of this changing of doors and parts isn't for the faint hearted first time round!

Thanks

Alyson

He may have used the flat screwdriver in the slots and tapped it round with a hammer to loosen it. The proper tool is likely a tube with 4 lugs one the end which locate in the 4 slots in the ring.
