Hands- driving position on the wheel

Despite the recommendations in so many manuals, really and seriously :
1) what is your hands driving position , on the Zed's steering wheel? (most of the time);
2) is it different for the other cars you drive?
My answers :
1) left 9.00 hours and right 5.00 hours;
2) NO.

9.00 and 3.00 most of the time and 12.00 right if im lazy

Being an old so-and-so we were taught 10 to 2 i.e 0200 - 2200 and I still do most of the time
On the other hand (pardon the pun) my wife will often drive 1600/ 2000 and that causes lots of domestics

I have to say it just depends on how I'm driving , cruising, in a bit of a rush, or what ever but always 2 hands at all times.

A mate of mines wife drives with her hand inside the wheel at 12.00 when revers parking......Grrrr.

You're right: RHD and LHD could be different......(for the position of the hands, for the same person)
Mine is a LHD.

In my late brothers first car, a Mk 1 Cortina GT, it had a wood rim alloy steering wheel with 3 spokes with 3 or 4 (I can't remember) holes in each, he used to drive with his fingers stuck through the holes. It made me cringe but I could not dissuade him from doing it. Wish I could still Bo££ock him for it.

I'm left handed and drive all my vehicles altering my hand position almost constantly to whatever feels comfortable at the given time. Both LHD AND RHD! so that should throw another screw in your works Zeti! JIM

Right handed, right hand drive model. Taught 10 and 2. Find I have to have to drive with both hands on the wheel in the Zed to keep control.
Pet hate... Pulling the steering wheel during turns. Taught to push which allows maximum control and comfort. Allegedly it also preserves the tyre tread.

Right hand 2 o'clock, left on gear nob unless on decent road in top gear and overtaking then 10 to 2, and I should know better having been A D I in the 80s. Still think as long as your concentrating and at least one hand on wheel but ready with other hand in car with power steering you've got reasonable control,it's the concentration and the power steering that's the key. NO???? Do the police still insist on push and pull.??? How many of you still push and pull.???? I don't. Is it really necessary in today's modern cars.???

I will ask a DI who comes into work Roy just to see if that's still the required way to steer a car nowadays to pass the driving test. I know when our two had driving lessons the 3-point-turn had already become "manoeuvres in the road" don't know if it still is.

They had to change the terminology because some vehicles and some side roads weren't wide enough to complete the three point turn which made it unfair for learners in larger cars as I remember it. I'm completely out of touch with the driver instruction these days Tony, but if the police are still pushing and pulling then about time they changed in my view, can't think of anyone I know who didn't change after they passed their test. Know one thing though, the two part test these days is a lot harder than when I took mine. Still believe learners should have extra tuition for motorway driving after the test, should be built into a all in price and completed within 6-12mths mandatory. Being a x-lorry driver myself and knowing the dangers of large lorries I took all my 4 children for lessons on motorway driving and paid special attention to correct lane use plus being aware of lorry blind spots (foreign number plated)left hand drive In particular. Gave them a commentary drive to show them how I delt with considered hazards. Think they were gobsmacked, hope,think it's helped them, none of them frighten me so maybe it done some good. Would lend any one of them the Z, if I had my arm twisted.lol
