We've just acquired an early '96 Z3 with 42000 miles on the clock. It seems to have spent most of its life in the garage of someone's beach home, being driven a couple of times a year during visits. Much of the rubber is dry, so the first orders of business were a nice set of suspension bushings, new tires (tyres) and liberal dousings of Gummi Pflege. Next up, a full exchange with new fluids and probably new hoses and belts.

We purchased the car as an extra runabout for my wife and son; somehow, the teenager seems to drive it most of the time. At least he's one of the few teens in the US who can drive a manual transmission!

I hope I don't have to come here too often for advise; having previously owned an E38, I should be terrified of BMW reliability at this point but am hoping all the Z3s I see with 100K-200K, I'm cautiously optimistic.

One thing I'd like to find immediately - a set of owners manuals.

Hey there tigerdog, welcome to the forum. Hope you and your son enjoy the Z. :)I can't personally help you out with the manual but I'm sure some one will be along soon who can.
I will be your side of the pond soon, we have a holiday home in Orlando, Fla.
I wish I could bring my Z over with me, alas...:(

Enjoy, all the best, Tony.

Hi Gary,
Thanks for the manual. It's a year too late to include our lowly 1.9 but as you say, it's a starting point - I'd even say it's a good one!

Ha ha, you're welcome.

There is no such thing as a lowly 1.9 on this forum, it has a cult following! In fact the 1.9 owners on here have there own group called the [USERGROUP=12]@M44 Massive[/USERGROUP]!

LOL! Looks like I've found a fun bunch of people, even if a few people here are more concerned with the size of their engine or how well they can grip things. I'm guessing most folks here don't need to compensate to enjoy life. :p

We all love our own cars, which is a common petrol head condition. Engine size is one of the more emotive arguments, and sometimes they boil over if left unchecked (a bit like real life overheating!).

You'll get used to it here quite quickly though. All Z3s were designed by the same guy, rolled down the same assembly line and eventually brought us all together.

There is no such thing as a bad Z3!
