Welcome Derek I'm not to far from you and there seems to be a few meets up on portsdown hill at the moment.

Your vacuum operated valve usually opens when you hit a certain RPM range to give the exhaust a nice noise.

Hi Derek and welcome from up near Lincoln. My 2.0 has the valve in the back box but it's stuck wide open and I like it that way, nice noise all the time!:)

Tony.

HI Derek my 2.8 has the same valve its closed at low rpm but if you blip the throttle certainly in a confined space you can hear it operating and the exhaust note changes.
Great choice of car and welcome to the fold

Hi and welcome from me born and bred in Southampton but left for the North, well north of Watford Gap 40 years ago.
For those with auto's there is no flap in the exhaust.

Hi Derek and welcome from me in Hertfordshire, my 2.8ltr had flap on OEM exhaust, after fitting a powerflow S/S system the flap was made redundant as with the vacume pipe the latter being plugged and tucked away under rear bumper just in case OEM exhaust was fitted at a later date. Hope this helps. Rha, Roy.
