I've decided that I'm going to get rid of the runflats on the new car asap.. but I don't like to depend on just a tin of crazy foam, so with the z4 coupe boot being fairly generous for a Z car I am thinking of carrying a space saver in a cloth cover..

The car has 17" wheels with 225/45x17 tyres.. is there a secondhand spacesaver from another BMW that will match this size? If not can anyone work out what size spacesaver rim and corresponding spacesaver tyre I would need buy new?

Thank you.. big Al

A normal Z3 one will do, those tyres are the same as on the front of mine.

I used a can of foam recently and was surprised at how excellent a job it did.

This was on my 3GT which I have to say drove like an absolute mutt relying on the run flat only.

How old are the RoF you are unhappy with,because they have improved a lot over the years.
My first experience was on a 320d vert 54 plate a friend had , horrid,then on. E61 04 plate horrid got rid very quick.
I now run them on the X1 and they are like chalk and cheese.
Before buying I tried the similar car with normal and then RoF switching ove twice so had each twice and I could not tell any difference.
My daughter has a CooperS with rather nice split rims car was only 4 weeks and had puncture in Leeds at 23.00hrs,drove home to Manchester no trouble---- she now wonders why all cars don't have them.

Its got a brand new set of runflats on rear so may swap rear wheels to front and see how that feels.. tbh l think the ride in my Z3 was firmer, even on 16's.. but could be because the seats in the Z4 are more comfortable?

I put 18,s on mine Alan and I carry a tin of tyre weld for the larger size Tyres and also a 12v compressor I bought from Andy @spurs fan in a coupe . Hope to never need it I'm confident they'll do the job.

Tony.

@abh29

The very new runflats on rear are Goodyear NCT5 tyres if that means anything?

if you go down the space saver route you will need the 17" version - the normal z3 one is 16 inch and will NOT fit - The brakes on the N52 engined z4 coupe are larger in dimeter than the early 3.0 roadsters so you'll need to source the rarer 17 inch one.

As others have said though the can of goo in the boot and a pump is the way i including a lot of others have gone.

Go for a slightly lager run flat. I tried to fit a Z3 wheel on the coupe and they don't go round the callipers.
