2.0 litre are all double vanos Sean. They were only available from1999 - 2000 as a face-lift model, engine is M52TUB20.

Excellent, thanks, so simple when you know :D
No problem Sean, happy to help. Basically the same engine is in the 2.5 (for the US market) and 2.8 from Sept 98 onwards. I did read somewhere that the 2l can be converted to 2.5l by fitting a different crank / con rod configuration.

With regards to stroking the M52TUB20 to 2.5 L, it's not an easy job. The bore is smaller on the 2.0 L engine compared to the others in the family. You'll need the 2.8 L crank and con-rods. You'll need to investigate how to manage the compression ratio as it will increase. The M52TUB20 is already high at 11:1. Could be a combination of head change (2.5 L) or different pistons (limited options due to smaller bore). There may still be problems with the piston height in the bore due to pinion location (height) on the side of the piston. Then there is the DME re-tune.

Probably cheaper to just buy a M54B25 engine and do the swap keeping your M52TUB engine loom and do a re-tune for a M52TUB25 engine in your existing Siemens M42.1 DME. You'll need a throttle body adapter plate to fit the M52TU throttle body to the M54 inlet manifold.

The M54B25 has an extra 21 HP over the M52TUB25 due to the different inlet manifold and larger head valves.

Remember to check the car modification rules in your location and get any modifications certified and insurance companies notified etc.
