Spending a lovely morning on my back, not that sort of morning, busy removing my rear wing. A few problems along the way but I am taking many pictures and hope to post a thread on it soon. However there is this "sensor" which is situation inside the rear wing just under the filler cap. The bracket is rotten so I will need to find a new one but can anyone tell me what this part is for?

I believe this is the outside temp sensor, the brackets are prone to rusting and new ones are eye wateringly expensive IIRC. Just make a bracket and mount it again.

@Mnbrennan had a pic of this on his car, a cable P clip did the job well

Thanks for the picture. Sensor was damaged so need a new one. Anyway will use a p clip as advised to save £12 for the bracket

Strange placement for an outside temp. sensor. Commonly they're mounted in (usually) the door mirror casing or front bumper.

Yep, for some reason on the ///M it was in the rear! I wonder if they were worried about residual heat off the engine bay?

Only reason I could think of Brian. Is the Z4M there too?

Tony.

ps. Just thought, at ZedFest this year you'll be in the Z4 field, must come and have a sit in yours. You never know I might end up with an ///M next year myself.=))

This could be a photo opportunity.
Who will win the race to get in first, @t-tony or @BMBabe?:whistle::whistle:

I have a 2000 Z3M. I don't see any "outside temperature" gauge anywhere.

Does this year Z3M have that?

I found the sensor had completely failed, and they are 100 quid to replace. I found a cheap temp sensor but it's the wrong voltage range. If anyone knows a cheap alternative I'd love to know!

I have ordered something from Ebay. It was £20 but I am not sure if it will either fit or work. They take returns so it is worth a try. Have tried to source V.D.O sensors but no luck. As usual with an M there is always something different and expensive with them !
