Gents I’m new to the group and wish to ask a few questions I’m hoping you can help as this is really driving me potty so here goes I brought my wife a Z4 2 months ago unfortunately windscreen took a hit so the original bmw screen was removed since then and I say this loosely but my alarm keeps going off which it never did before!
So had a quick look on here and bonnet sensor seemed to be the common fault but not in my case as I have replaced it today and I managed to have a look on a friend works laptop to look if any faults were listed to which it’s telling us tilt sensor my question guys is does the tilt sensor wiring run through the rear view mirror only reason I ask is the red wire in the mirror was caught and stripped a little secondly if the wiring runs though the mirror what wires are they colour wise and finally where is the tilt sensor located if any of you can answer this you are legends many thanks

Well gents I’d like to say thanks for all the the suggestions and advise you are all stars. So I hope this helps anybody for future reference it appears on the 2007 2.0ltr z4 that the tilt sensor is also a siren. So bmw are unable to tell you for the obvious reasons but I can inform it is located behind the plastic cover behind the rear wheel drivers side it has its own metal bracket which is held on by 2 10mm bolts simply unbolt and unplug and replace the job takes about ten minutes let’s hope it all works for me as it think my neighbours might murder me if not

Guess if we don't here any more we'll know it didn't fix the problem;)=))
Nice to know where it's located thank you. Might be a good idea to do a quick "How to" thread on the location etc.

Tony.

Considering it was more than three weeks between your OP and your last post, you should have bumped your OP.
Not every single post on the forum gets read by members, especially by a member who has the knowledge to answer your questions.

Any E85 hardtop will fit. There were no differences to the Hardtop when the Z4 got its face lift in 2006

It is very easy to fit and takes just two minutes. It’s a two man job unless you have a winch.
You should get 4 additional parts with your HT. An Allen key tool, two plastic panels that fit either side and a smaller oval panel that fits over the locking aperture.

Can’t do pics at the moment as my HT is all wrapped up in storage.

At the bottom of the bracket just behind the doors there is a rubber cover - remove these and keep them safe.
Best to clean the mating surfaces on the car and HT.

Simply lift the HT on and make sure the large pins fit into the mounts at the base of the folding roof hinge behind the doors. - this can be fiddly until you get the hang of it because tolerances are small.
When the HT has dropped in to place - Use the rounded end of the tool in the posts each side and twist it through 90 degrees.
Use the other end of the tool in the roof above the mirror and twist to lock the roof in to the top of the screen. You will feel it tighten down.
Put the three covers on and you're done!

There is some adjustments that can be made if you find the rubber seals aren’t quite tight. My HT went straight on.
Removal is just the opposite.

FYI - there are electrical connections built into the HT for the heated rear screen. It works without needing any additional connections.

I believe your soft top should be inoperable when the HT is on. Haven’t tried to prove this though.
Not sure if that applies to the Gaptech roof device if you have one fitted. That could still work, so it’s best to be careful unlocking the car and not press the Open button several times (that starts the automatic roof opening).

Some where I have a copy of the BMW manual for the HT will see if I can dig it out.

Price depends on condition. I got mine for a song tbh because it had some damage. They are usually £600 min and quite often a great deal more simply because they are rare and don’t come up for sale that often. Waiting for the right colour can take a while unless your prepared to respray one to match.

Hope that helps.

Just out of casual interest, is there no "fitting kit" required for the Z4, unlike the Z3?:)

Correct. All Uk Z4s should be pre-equipped for HT installation.
