Hi, I’ve just joined and was prompted to introduce myself.
i bought my Boston Green 2.8i in 2017. it‘s done 64k miles and I love it. My first new BMW in 1994 was a Boston Green compact.
Done all the usual things, some paintwork, replacement x8r wing mirror spindles, seat bushes, radiator fan.
The biggest problem was water ingress. Damp smell, peeled back carpets, swimming pool below. Replaced front seals, door membrane, front roof seal (the expensive one). Stripped the entire interior out to dry it properly, then promptly flooded it again during a further attempt to find the leak with a hose. Eventually found an elusive forum post about leaves blocking the rubber windscreen drains at the rear of the engine. Problem solved. If you have a wet floor at the front, try this first.
Last year I had an advisory about surface rust on the trailing arms. Local indy says this can be the death of Z3s. Stripped it back over the winter as I had surface rust on the wing panels and sill covers. The sill covers almost flaked off and I have bad corrosion on the inner sills. I’ve sourced some replacement wings and covers but need to deal with the inner sills. Looks pretty bad, a few tiny holes and lots of pitting.
I’ve looked at Redish Motorsport but £3k plus doesn’t look economical for anything other than a Z3M.
Need to try to find good welder willing to do this in central Scotland but this is proving tricky. I do really like the car though so will find a way. Other than the sills the car is superb.
That’s me, I’ll post some photos when I get it all sorted. Thanks for reading.

Welcome aboard the best Z Forum for everything Z.
I see your in Central Scotland, update your User details with your location and model of Z so it appears in the left of your posts, it saves you typing it in on new posts and helps us answer questions as we are Worldwide.
Sure you will find a Welder who can repair the inner sills, I have seen worse cases. Cover sills are available from BMW or you might consider using fibre glass sills that are available. Info on previous threads if you do a search.

Thank you. I managed to source used panels, arriving by courier tomorrow and in Boston Green too. I’ll need to assess the condition of the sill covers as they have some corrosion but front and rear wings are good, I’ve seen the fibreglass sill covers on Classic Coachwork’s web site so will keep that in mind. Encouraging to hear your view on the sills, I’m at that low when you get a nasty surprise on stripping down the panels… and user details updated thanks for the prompt.

Hi Ade, try Jim Dickson's Garage in Cumbernauld, they are a very friendly bunch and would be able to do this economically I'm sure. They are extremely busy but if you're happy to wait then it's worth contacting them, good luck.

Hi and welcome from me. Those inners don’t look to bad. Mine had some pitting and a repair was also done for me around the jacking point but the refurbe I did myself. Just got to be aggressive and honest with getting them back to clean metal. Hope you can find a welder. I found mine on Facebook of all places.
