HI all,

Just came across this forum and decided to register,
I have owned several mx5's in the past including a current project, whilst i was looking for a mk2/3 mx5
one of my friends left me he Z3 for a week, for me to carry out a service and tidy it up a bit.

What can I say, I fell in love with the motor and decided that I had to have one, months went by, ended up with an E46 328 Sport ( I know far away from a Z3 ) but it was my first BMW after all.

I ran that for a few months tidied it up and then the time came to sell it and resume my hunt for a Z3.

I ended up with this.

Is a 1997 1.9 In Cosmos black.
the previous owner had the bootlid and bonnet wrapped in Carbon effect vinyl, I am still not too sure about it, but I can be removed once I become totally sick of seeing it.
The car was cheap enough and came with Full service history down to the last mile, so so far so good.

here are a couple of pictures.

Welcome to the madhouse, Nash! :) Glad you've found us.
A wrapped bonnet has got to be a bonus, at least you don't have to worry about stone chips and polishing it!!

A big welcome from me Nash :welcome:

They are easy to fall in love with ;)

Looks a very nice tidy Zed you have, but not sure the pictures really show the vinyl effect. Looks matt in the pictures, and probably would need to see it in the flesh to appreciate it!

Thanks for the comments, I am in agreement with the fact that wrap will keep my bonnet from stone chips,
but I also love the looks of a glaming black polished bonnet ..
Decisions decisions ...

Cosmos black is a great colour "Black for the Track" is cosmos. And as BadmanGee will attest when she is clean look great (apart from the new damage to the rear bumper from Snetterton)

re the stone chips:

I was at my old man's for father's day and treated him to a full clay/wash/polish/wax of his Jag X-Type.

The car is about 5 years old and has done around the same mileage as Zizi (80k) and it has slightly metallic mid-grey paint.

It's one of the Ford Jags but I was amazed to see it was covered in stone-chips. The entire front of the car was pitted and the undercoat was like a dark carbon colour so the chips were really obvious.

I've got 3 stone-chips on mine and you have to look close to find them.

I'm not sure if it's because mine is Silver or because the paint job on the BMWs is so much better, but if anyone with a dark coloured car can confirm it's the latter then I wouldn't worry too much about stone-chips!

Hmmm, shocking about the Jag, don't know about the BMW paint being stronger, I just sold an e46 coupe that was absolutely covered in stone chips all over the bonnet, perhaps the previous owner used to take him self for long drives behind a gritter lorry

I will be peeling off the carbon wrap in the near future as it has seen better days, depending on what condition the bonnet is in I might re wrap it again, I have a feeling that the wrap is concealing some horror story under it
