Hi everyone.
I am the proud owner of a 2.8 Roadster 2000. My wife to be and I have had a great time over the last year blatting around Cheshire.
Unfortunately, Zippy is looking a little worse for wear. Her rims are pitted, there is rust on the sills and around the boot lock, and the flared arches are starting to bubble around stone chips. She is sadly off the road at the moment as my wife to be is shortly about to become my fully fledged wife and we need all our pennies!!
We want to bring Zippy back to her former glory but are in a real quandary. I am not a fan of Titan Silver.......I like a car that I can polish! So, a colour change is in order. I have had some stupid quotes for removal of the engine, and it is not something I would/could do myself. Has anyone had any experience of good but cost effective engine removal in the North West?
Many thanks in advance for your help and comments.

Welcome Stevie, and congratulations on soon being made an honest man ;)

I'm assuming you want the engine out so the bay can be sprayed to match the rest of the car? It's a shame you like polishing because a vinyl wrap would be way more cost effective to change the colour.

Z3's are starting to rust out more commonly now, so you aren't on your own. I got rid of my first '99 Z3 due to rust getting in to the sills and panels.

Cheers, Gary.

It is very possible to change colour without removal of the engine. Depending upon colour choices it is possible to coordinate initially until such time as you can afford, or decide you can perform the removal, to unite the engine compartment colour to the exterior. Many times, a good steam clean and clean up of the compartment buys good results. Unless you plan on showing the car the bonnet can stay closed and no one is the wiser. HTH JIM

"Unfortunately" I work in the refinish industry so I am subjected daily to poor quality repairs and paint jobs. If I am going to do a colour change it will be a full strip out. A big job I know, but I think it will be worth it in the long run.

Unless you absolutely can't live without this car( obviously you aren't that attached) sell it and buy a clean example in your colour choice. There are many available in the UK if you take your time and search. You'll probably be further ahead for less money. There are forum members available here to guide you through minor refreshes that need to be done to make your car sparkle, such as advice on polishes, etc to use. I purchased my car in the UK and had it cleaned for export and the valeter that did the work literally took the car apart body wise to clean every nook and cranny. He sent 156 pics to show his progress. It was amazing to see. Although I don't have the car yet, it is stored 2500 mi from here at a friend's and he says it's georgeous. HTH JIM

Hi Gary, why do I keep getting double and triple posts and how can I remove them when it happens?? This has happened before, touch the blue post reply, turns black and nothing is happening until the black is touched which then shows the flashing loading icon. Then I end up with double posts. JIM

Don't worry when we spot them we remove them for you. It tends to happen more on slower connections, and I think you said yours is quite slow.

I would suggest when you click Post Reply, when it gets to the black screen you hit refresh (F5 or the button on the browser). You will most likely find the post has been made already ;)
