Well out and about this afternoon, everything going well then got stuck in some stop start traffic in Maidstone for no more than 15 minutes and the tempeture gauge on my Z4 crept up and into the RED with light on and bleeps and everything...!

Parked up did a bit of shopping all back to Normal when we got back to the car then remained dead centre all the way home?

Got dark by the time we got home so have not had chance to have a look, never had an issue with overheating before always impeccably behaved. Any ideas what I should be looking at tomorrow please?

I would start by running it up to temperature Si and take note how long it takes to open the thermostat and fully circulate the coolant. Check the coolant level at cold first before you start up. Sounds as though it needed the cooling fan to cut in but it didn't, so could be the fan switch.

Tony.

Cheers Tony. I popped the bonnet in the car park for a quick look, and the fan was definitely not running, no puddles on the floor either which is good.

Maidstone has that effect on good cars, they get scared in the town centre, mine over heated there too..come on down to Canterbury next time!

On mine it was the viscous da but I belive you only have electric in the 4. On the Z3 you can short the electric fan switch to see if the fan is working to rule that out. Maybe the the same in the Z4. It sits on the side of the radiator core on the 3.

I know what you mean about Maidstone, all those roadworks and it's no better - still a river with a roundabout on it..!

If it's a si with the n52 engine, i put money on the fact the electric water pump has given up the ghost. Notorious to fail between 80-100k miles
They're around a 450 quid part but labour is negligible as its a bolt on item

Not cheap Si but a relatively simple fix. Glad you got to the bottom of the problem any how.

Yeah all good @t-tony a bit of a shock but it's no good having a car like this that doesn't work properly. Out yesterday and she is running like a dream sooo smooth - which is more than can be said for the Kent roads☹
