The High Performance Course will be running another Young Drivers Day on the 1st of August 2015. This is open to those who are aged 26 years or less and hold a full driver's licence, and who are not graduates of the High Performance Course. The aims of the day are to:

Promote awareness of driving skills at advanced levels
Encourage the participants to develop their own skills
Have fun

More details are available on the High Performance Course website. (http://www.high-performance-course.com/component/content/article?id=13)

If you are not aware of this course - it is probably the top civilian driver training you can do - High Performance refers to the driver not the car per se and is an amazing course... the Young Drivers Day is a great opportunity for some very advanced training at virtually no cost (c. £30 for the day)

I should be there with the z3 3.0l

Sounds great and what an advantage for young drivers! Wish they had courses like that back when I was starting out! Nothing like that happens anywhere close to where I live but I think they do have courses in wheelchair scooter use for us OF's !! JIM

I think they might have done (in the UK!) this course dates from the 1960s... then it was BSM (the British School of Motoring) and a course where they provided e-types / astons / etc. so that you coul learn to drive the high performance cars - now you provide your own car, but the tuition is still great!

Every advantage that young drivers can get will help them drive better and with more confidence! JIM

@Lee - great to meet you on Saturday - I really enjoyed the day and hope you got something out of it (other than bacon sandwiches and cake!)...
Like your z3, but sadly not sure I can justify buying another car at the moment :)

@akirk

It was a brilliant and tiring day. I learnt a lot which I put into practice on the way home. Pleased to know I have a high standard of driving already just needs refining. I'm interested to know more on what I need to do to join up. I was impressed by the level of commitment and passion these other drivers shared.

My friend was exhausted and finally someone other than me teaching him to drive :D

@Lee, glad you enjoyed it - I heard some positive comments about your driving :)
There is a very simple process to doing the High Performance Course:
http://www.high-performance-course.com/
There are two course managers - based in Wales & Midlands, so folks tend to contact the nearer...
You initially spend a half day with them and they let you drive - see what is strong / weak etc. - they then may suggest that you go off and practise certain things (in my case I then went back for a second half day having practised - about 3 weeks later) - once they feel you are ready, you then book in two subsequent days which you spend doing road and off road (track, but practising road, not racing skills)... and they advise you on what next etc...

The two days is exhausting - but probably the best two days driving I have ever done - and incredibly inspiring as to what is possible in the future... the course managers are phenomenally good drivers!

worth reading the course syllabus: http://www.high-performance-course.com/syllabus
and buying a copy of Roadcraft if you don't have it already - they form the foundation for the course...

If you want to link up for any other drives I am not a horrendous distance away (just north of Swindon) - happy to find time...

Thanks @akirk I did enjoy the driving style of the rally driver. not often I get to sit passenger with a driver who has a similar style to my own.

Funny enough I had got myself a copy of roadcraft, I'm only a 3rd of the way through.

Yeah a drive out will be good sometime. Show you what an M handles like :)

That would be awesome - though perhaps dangerous to my bank account!
we could compare it to a 3.0 litre with all new suspension (and an auto gear box!)
Mr C. is a fantastic driver - highly skilled, but perhaps unorthodox at times - it takes a lot of skill to drive that way safely, but as he shows, clearly possible. The beauty of the YDD was seeing lots of different drivers demonstrating that there are many ways of being very good / safe / skilled at driving...
