Hello folks,
I never got to see how fast my Z3 can go, because as soon as I go faster than 110/120 km/h (about 70 mph), there is an extremely annoying high-pitched whistle/whine/fart that comes from the windscreen. The faster, the louder, like a screaming frightened mother-in-law on my dashboard.

I've read quite a bit about what seems to be a common issue and I'd really like to find it a proper neat fix w/o having to replace the original windscreen.

Has any of you guys sorted this out in an effective way and can help me finding the spot where the air gets in and turns my car into a 1,5 ton gigantic ocarina...?

Are you sure that the front window panels are lined up correctly. If they're not meeting the seals then that could led wind noise in, as discovered with my project car.

From inside the car try put your finger in between where the quarter glass panel finishes and a pillar, with the project car I was able to push outwards, and essentially force my finger past the seal from inside the car.

This is the quarter panel I'm talking about

Also are the windows sealing against the soft top correctly?

If your windows look like this then that may also be the cause.

In my case one of the clips for the regulator had broken and the window wasn't sitting correctly. I was able to pull on the window and raise it manually which indicated that the window was no longer sitting in the regulator.

Also as @Antm72 said it may well be the soft top itself.

I doubt it is the windscreen. Unless it is where it joins the roof. As @Faheem says more likely to be the Quarter windows

Hi folks and thanks for the replies.
Hood up or down doesn't matter: it happens in both circumstances especially on high viaducts in presence of side winds, of course is more noticeable when driving with the hood closed as the car is quieter.
Reading around other for a I got the impression that it's the windscreen seal, quite surprised nobody is familiar with the problem here...probably you guys don't whip your Z hard enough :D

I swear this trumpeting noise comes from the center dashboard at the base of the windscreen...I'll keep investigating.

Used to get a noise like a thousand angry bees from the windscreen on my old Pajero, the rubber sealing strip that covers up the windscreen joint where it's glued to the car was a little bit loose. Might be worth sticking some insulating tape around the screen and seeing if that stops the noise, if it does then maybe some black mastic sealer behind the cover strip is needed, just to stop it vibrating. Used to happen on the Pajero at anything above 50MPH.
