Hi Everyone,

i'm currently developing an induction kit for my Z3 and once completed i'm wanting to sell these to the community and price them well under what it costs to buy a simota or other off the shelf kit.

they wont be heatshielded as this is overly complicated and expensive and im not 100% sure it makes a bit of difference.

i'll be filiming and documenting my kit soon so people can hear and see it but so far it is:

A large K&N Filter capable of supporting up to 300bhp
all stainless pipework and premium hardware for maximum longevity and style
premium 4 ply silicone joiners / reducers

everything would be boxed up and ready to bolt in after removing your exisiting airbox.

I'd appreciate your feedback on pricing as i dont want to rip people off but also need to make enough money to cover my time / shipping / packaging etc

I'm also going to need some guinea pigs for non 2.8 ZEDS as i believe the MAFS and mounting point will all be different.

Thanks in advance

Tim

I can tell you this induction kit sounds great. Didn't get a chance to come to talk to you on Sunday but heard it clearly when we leaving BMW. Sounds great.

Will it be an oiled filter or can it be a dry filter like ATE do.

Thanks Dino

It's an oiled filter that I'm using as I trust the manufacturer and haven't seen any evidence to suggest I shouldn't but I will also investigate others.

I'd be interested as been thinking about getting a simota. Oiled filters can cause problems as it gets into the maf and upsets things.

Thanks for the feedback. I've read lots of conflicting information about the Maf issue and believe k&n when they say it's not true.

I think this issue occurs when you get people over oiling the filters. The k&n filter I'm using gas the recommend oil amount on it

This is my setup, upgraded this year with a new cone filter off eBay as the Ramair one was knocking on a bit(10 years) and the foam was breaking up.

Never had a heat shield and the new filter is a bit larger than the old one and takes air in through the end of the cone as well as the sides and tucks in where the original airbox intake was.

I agree with that (re-oiling). My came with a Pipercross panel filter - I got it out to clean and then realized it will take time so got a standard filter in so I could use the car and then never got round to it some 2yrs later (!). I wasn't sure how to tell if I'd put too much or too little oil on it so just left the standard one in and replaced every year.
I did clean the MAF at the time too as there were some running issues but can't say if it was oil on the MAF or not for sure or a clean filter that helped.

The K&N guide video and spray oil makes it easier to see how much to apply though.

Its not ATE like I said but AFE that make dry cone filters as well as oiled ones http://afepower.com/cold-air-intake-systems

For me the sound aspect is the most important benefit of this mod. Any performance is bonus!
Just makes it a different car.

I think you get more induction noise if you have a standard exhaust. The note of my Supersprint changed when I modded the air box on mine for more sound (holes in the box, on the pre filter side of course!).

This big come filter that you've done certainly roars when you revved so a winner for me in that dept - do you have a standard exhaust @5harp3y ?
