Hi,
I am trying to install INPA on a Windows 8.0 laptop.
I used a fresh install of Windows and the only other software installed is Firefox browser and AVG anti-virus (which was disabled during the install)
I followed the instructions detailed in the Bimmerforums diagnostic thread "https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/...tions-Experiences-Discussions-Experimentation".
I have purchased these cables :
The USB driver for the cable seemed to load correctly and everything else went fine until the “Part 3 LoadData.exe” completed however when the pop-up screen came up showing the result this showed two warning messages:

Does anyone have any advice as to how to proceed?
I haven't tried to run INPA yet or connect to my car yet - I don't want to risk causing any issues with the car electronics.
Any help/guidance would be appreciated.

I don't know anything about the specific warning items.

INPA has both read and control functions. The control functions are in the "Activate" menus. As long as you don't "activate" anything, you are good to run INPA and see if it works as it will only be reading data from the car..

Hi All,

I now have INPA up and running. :)

The instructions (attached) that I was following at Bimmerforums "https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/...tions-Experiences-Discussions-Experimentation" say to run the Windows registry update"serial port.reg" as the final step but it would appear it is better to run this before running "Part 3 LoadData.exe" then you don't get any errors.

I am now able to communicate and can read the engine data etc OK however the reason I was trying to install INPA in the first place was to troubleshoot a problem with my alarm system so I need access to the “Body” modules …..

If I select “Anti-Theft Alarm System” from the Body sub-menu I get a fault message “Requested Control Unit DWA4 Not Found. Control Unit Found: ???” I also noticed that the title at the top of the screen was displaying “INPA-Loader: Theft Prevention System DWA4 E31/E34 Version 1.05” even though I had selected E36 on the main menu screen.

I then tried a number of the other modules on the “Body” sub-menu –
I was able to access “Electronic Vehicle Immobilisation EWS” but could not access “On Board Computer BC5”, “On Board Computer/Clock VHR/BC E36/7”, “Convertible Soft-Top Module CVM” or “Remote Controls”

It looks like my copy of INPA (v5.06) / Ediabas (v7.3.0) is missing some of the modules for my car so two questions …..

Is there any way to get INPA to list all of the modules installed in my car?
How do I update my software to add these modules in?

It's a 2000 1.9 Z3 Roadster
I am using the 20 pin connector in the engine bay (I'm aware th 16 pin connector can only be used for the engine modules)
I can access the “Electronic Vehicle Immobilisation EWS” module from the body sub-menu but not the others.
Copies of INPA screen dumps from E36/Body menu attached.

It's the other way around. The round 20-pin is engine only. The 16-pin (like a SCART) can access some body control modules. Not all z3s have the 16-pin modules.

On your 2000 year model, the alarm system is in the GM4 (ZKE4) module. It should be in the "body" section.

Once in there, look for a pages that shows you things like door switches alarm triggers. It's been a while since I have been in there myself.

Hi NZ00Z3,
My problem is I can't get into that screen !

If you look at my two previous posts from today I have described my problem and given screenshots of the "body" menu together with the error messages I get from INPA when I try to access the modules.

It looks like my copy of INPA (v5.06) / Ediabas (v7.3.0) is missing some of the modules for my car so two questions …..

Does your D-Kan cable have a switch on one of the connectors? If so switch it.

The object is to short pins 7 and 8 in the OBD2 connector. This combines the 2 diagnostic busses into one and you should be able to read all modules.

Yes, it has a switch and I already have it in the closed position.
The switch position wasn't labelled on the plug so I had to open it up to check the correct position

Yes, I can access all of the engine sub menu screens Analogue 1, Analogue 2 etc so INPA is communicating with the car OK.

I just came across this while looking for an INPA user manual ...https://bimmerprofs.com/diagnostics-inpa-part-1/
According to after selecting the vehicle series pressing F2 should bring up a list of all the installed modules but I only get a screen giving the date of manufacture, supplier no etc

Is there any way to get this version of INPA to list all the modules fitted?

@NZ00Z3 - Do you not need to use the 20-pin to access the Engine modules and the 16-pin to access the Body modules? I don't have a 16-pin, so I can't access any Body modules.

Or are you saying that the 16-pin can access all modules with the switch closed?

Or are you saying the 20-pin can access all modules with the switch closed?

@Pingu,
As far as I can ascertain from reading numerous posts the internal 16 pin is only for the engine whereas the 20 pin in the engine bay has access to the whole system.
Update ....
I have just done a quick check on my car -
From the 20 pin connector in the engine bay I can read both the engine and body data
From the 16 pin connector in the driver foot-well I can read the engine data but not the body data.

Have you checked that both INPA and the cable are talking on the same Com port?
Hi NZ00Z3
I went down the path of installing INPA to try and resolve a problem with my alarm system.
I now have INPA up and running and can read the engine data and a few of the body modules but I can't access the ZKE4 module I need to investigate the alarm issue - a little frustrating to say the least !
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I use the same IPA download with success. Don't know why you are having so much trouble.

Let me charge up my laptop and have a play with my 2000 year Z3 and see what I can find.

Hi Tony,
The original thread about my alarm issue is here ......https://zroadster.org/threads/alarm-system-fault.75065/#post-935107
I started this thread as it was more specifically related to INPA.
