You can get the reset tool on Ebay for around £10

I've seen a few Zeds where shorting the pins out doesn't work, in which case a service reset tool isn't that expensive these days.
Not just me then....
I was shorting pins 1 & 7 on Saturday with no effect. Also tried earthing pin 7 but still didn't work.

I've not tried this, but the videos I have seen say to either connect port 7 to 19, or simply to earth port 7. Perhaps port 19 is an earth connection?? The thing seems to be that you then need to have the ignition on for at least 10 seconds for the reset to occur. A quick switch on, switch off won't do it.

I've watched the various on-line videos on how to get your lights back to green, whilst it may work surely a reset tool is a better way? After all they're as cheep as chips, I have one, and are simple and quick to use.

The service tool you mention. Where does it plug in on a 2002 Z3? I'm new to the car.

Short out pin 7 using a piece of wire (I actually use a circuit tester screw driver) then turn the ignition on for 10 seconds (or a little more) then turn off, remove the wire you used to short out pin 7 put the cover back on the socket and turn on the ignition and all the lights should be on. works for me every time anyway, and done a few others.

You've just saved yourself £10

I've just tried again shorting 7 to 19 but no joy.

Is the service reset tool just a switch to short the pins or is it more clever than that?

Try pin 7 to earth, but you must earth it before you turn the ignition on for 10+ seconds and dont remove the earth until you have switched it off again.
