Fortunately both items can be replaced without removing the console. The handbrake surround lifts out, no clips or screws. Boot is secured by a tie wrap, clip off and remove, note the boot is secured inside out. New boot secured with new tie wrap. I have the manual transmission so not sure how the gear selector is fastened. Instruction manual says the Knob just pulls of with a good vertical tug, absolute rubbish never known one come of that easy. Gear lever boot fits around the inner of the surround on the manual, not sure about the auto.

Thanks for reply Paul, I may give it a try today. The new boots are from my daughter for my birthday so I told her I would install them and take a picture for her.

Please find attached pictures of my project to install a new leather cover for my E brake on my 2004 Z4 BMW. The old leather was actually in good shape but was very faded.
pictures: 3015-3017 Original cover, 3019 E brake frame easily pops up and our with hands - remove old leather and save foam and clean old glue off, 3020 New leather (after market - It fit well and color was good), 3021 new leather ready to be glued on underside frame - Elmers glue worked best - you will need to trim and cut to fit new leather into frame, glue dried fast - 30 min, approx. 2 hour job altogether, 3024 new completed leather, 3027 new & old leather side by side, 3028 E-brake less leather cover, 3031 Beginning to install new leather cover on E-Brake, 3032 Sliding leather on to handle, 3036 New Leather cover in place with tie in place which holds leather in place on hand brake handle, 3037 Pulling leather cover on, 3038 Underside of frame showing tabs that pop into match holes in center console, 3039 new leather in place, 3040 Holes in in center console, 3043 Completed job.

Good Job Leon
I replaced the shifter boot on my 2004 Z4 today. It was not a bad job however the main issue I had is that the new boot leather was thicker than the original boot leather and I had to trim the leather so it would fit into the plastic frame. The good thing is that in the E85 Z4 series anyway, the shifter housing, shifter and boot just pop out. In the pictures below I try to show the steps. 1. Pull Shifter out while car is in neutral, pop housing off but DON'T unplug two wires that plug into housing - leave housing there, remove old boot housing & boot. 2. Take pictures of how the existing boot housing fit together and example how the old boot is glued to the plastic boot housing and try to duplicate the gluing of new boot so it fits back into the shifter housing easily. If new boot leather is thicker it may be difficult to fit it into the housing. 3. Remove old boot and clean clue of plastic boot frame. 4. Glue new boot onto the plastic frame LIKE old boot was glued. 5. Re-install boot & frame into the shifter frame. 6. Pop housing back into console 7. Pop shifter handle back into shifter
