Intermittent starter issue

About once in every 20 times try to start the 2006 Z4M, I hear one click as if the battery is dead... I wait maybe 30 seconds and try again with no problem.
Trying to access the battery, but the hook-ups are quite different (two positive - one negative posts/leads?) then what I'm familiar with.
Just the battery? Anyone with a similar resolved issue?
Thank

First thing to check if all the battery connections are clean and tight to ensure good connections, follow that up by checking the connections at the starter motor are clean and tight. How old is the battery, put a meter on it and check what voltage it has. Also use the meter on it with engine running to check the alternator is charging, you should see around 14volts with engine running, anything less would suggest the alternator is not charging correctly.

Also check that the engine/gearbox earth strap is present and fixings are tight.

Thanks for the reply and information. I will meter check as you suggest.I don't know the battery's age as I bought it recently from a dealer who doesn't check such things (I did have an independent mechanic give it a thumbs up in general). Mounted as it is, the battery is not easily accessed nor the service date observed
