New guy here. This is a picture of my newly acquired 1997 Z3 1.9. My brother bought this car new in 1997 and drove it for about a year. He and his wife had a baby and the car was impractical for a small family. In 1998, my dad bought the car from him and gifted it to my mom. My mom drove the car every day until about 2013 when she retired. At that point the car basically sat in their garage with they taking the car out occasionally. My dad did regular maintenance on the car and in 2018 he had a local shop go through the car to make sure it was road worthy as they were planning a trip along Rt 66 (they never went on the trip). The car basically sat in their garage for 10 years. My parents are both in their Mid 70’s and my dad has been diagnosed with early stages of Parkinson’s and mom has a statically issue. They both can no longer drive a car with a manual transmission. This past weekend, they decided to gift the car to me, so our family can enjoy it. When I got the car, it had 38,000 miles on it. I brought it home, cleaned it up and drove it about 250 miles. I found some fun back roads here in Oklahoma. I had done some research and ordered parts that are prone to failure as we plan on driving the car regularly. One such part is the throttle cable grommet (Will be here tomorrow thankfully). Yesterday afternoon, while working on the leaky A pillar, I peered inside the car and noticed a small black piece laying in the floorboard right next to the gas pedal. The dreaded grommet had failed and fell out. Thankfully it stayed in tact for me to get home. Looking forward to learning here and enjoying the car. My plan is to drive it and eventually teach my 9 year old daughter how to drive it and keep it in the family for many more years, when she is old enough to drive.
