Hi all,

You may well have noticed a new menu item appear this afternoon - Showcase

I will go in to this in more detail once we are ready for people to start adding their own cars. Or if you would prefer I can create it for you, then assign it to you!

Currently you can only VIEW, and not add to it.

Showcase is fully integrated in to the Xenforo software.

What Showcase does is to allow you to, err, showcase your car for all to see. This differs to the old style progress threads, in that it allows you to store the information on your car in a more structured way.

A 'showcase' can be linked to your existing progress thread (if you have one), so any discussion is carried on and the progress thread is still maintained.

For example: I've created a new showcase item for Rosie. When I view on that showcase item, I'm presented with the following information I've chosen to include. These are all neatly grouped together in to tabbed sections.

Notice the 'discussion' tab?
  • If you have a current progress thread it will show that thread!
  • If you don't have a current progress thread, it creates a new thread for you!
Likewise, if you open your progress thread directly from the forum you see the information tabs from the showcase.

If you view someones profile page, you can view their showcase items.

It's integrated in to the Alerts system as well, so anyone 'watching' your showcase will be alerted to any updates.

More details as and when I have finished tinkering with the settings!

@Brian H & @zedonist

If you two don't mind being guinea pigs, I've given you access to add showcase items ;) Can you try and add an entry and let me know how you find it? I haven't documented the process yet, as I think it's fairly obvious (but am happy to be proven wrong!). Click on Showcase then hit "Create Item"...

If anyone else wants to be a tester, then let me know and I'll enable you!

Cheers, Gary

Hi Gaz, menu pushes you through the process so is good in that respect, only one issue is that i got an error message when publishing that said description was not there, i assume this related to the General Information tab, as when i populated that it published? so may need to put a sticky or pop note somewhere or something

Thanks to @zedonist & @Brian H for the testing so far.

I'm rather glad I didn't document how to add items, as its allow you both room for creativity! Initially my thoughts were to get everyone to add them in a consistent style, but I think you guys have done it better!

Will look to open this up to everyone later today (only a few few permissions to tweak). Hopefully we can build up a nice Showcase of our cars to show to our members and passing visitors!

Cheers, Gary

Showcase is now open for business!

All registered users can now create items. If you have an existing progress thread that you want linked, then drop me a message and I will link the two for you.

Cheers, Gary
