I hasten to add I wouldn't be drinking it whilst driving but I wonder if anybody has made one that fits a Z3 and how easy to fit if it is possible

The part number you need as in Nodzed's pictures is 51 16 8 413 622, BMW Germany have over 100 in stock, there is no stock in the UK, once ordered it will only take around 3-4 days.
Price has gone up a bit £90, try Sopers in Lincoln they may discount for you,

I’m very happy and find the quality good. I have bought two now, one for each car, and it’s so much more useful than the original ashtray. Colour is good. Here’s a photo on my car

If they are raised on top of the normal tunnel then that was an optional extra. Only one cup location if I remember correctly
