Just noticed my fronts are a little low

2015-03-15 12.06.37.jpg

These were originally on the rear, but we switched them to the front when we refurbished the subframe. Doing this I think gave me a couple of thousand more miles use. The rears are all at least 4mm, so plenty of life. Been running on Maxxis MA-Z1s which have been perfectly fine, but tyreleader.co.uk don't have them in my size at the moment.

Bit of research here, and online using tyrereviews.co.uk I've opted for Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta 225/40 ZR18 92Y at £64.69 each. They had more reviews in total and a better overall rating, and there was a lot of feedback from Beemer owners too.

Need to get them to a local tyre centre for fitting when they arriev, so that's should be another £30 to the total. Will let you all know how good my decision was later on!

Are you not running a staggered set up on your car then?

My Breytons are 8.5" all round so I have the advantage of being able to switch them front and rear to balance the wear out if needed.

Do you run spacers on the fronts Gaz?

I have an ET40 offset on mine which means they are pretty much in line with the arches (if not a smidgeon outside). I run 225 width tyres which is a little stretched which helps. This is how they looked on my first Z3 (with 15mm spacers on the rear).

They must have larger offset than my rears then, I assume because mine only reach level with the arches after I fitted 20mm. So 5mm more than mine?

In essence yes, but can tell for sure if we know exactly what width you run on the rear from this table.

Just checked with the company I got my Maxxis from and they're £80 for the 225/40 18, including fitting & balancing.

Having just been out to the garage Gaz, I'm on 245/40x17W. There aren't any sizes, such 9.5J cast on the outside of the rims. I assume that 245mm = 91/2" ? I know that the profile = 40% of the tyre width.

Just got back from One Stop service centre in Newbury who charged the princely sum of £30 to fit, balance and dispose of the old tyres. Took her for a bit of drive around and initial feedback is good! It's difficult when comparing tyres with almost no tread against fresh, but the ride seems a lot less crashy and less prone to picking up ruts in the road.

Think they need a bit more scrubbing in which is rather difficult on a RWD car. Need to put them on the back for a few burnouts :ymdevil:

Quick feedback after 150 miles. At first I was going to switch them to the back as the steering felt rather odd. Drove them for about 90 miles, and the turn in on corners felt like you needed to turn the wheel more than you needed to.

Had a thought and popped to a local garage and found one at 38psi and the other at 35psi. Dropped the pressure down to the standard 32psi I've run since buying these rims and everything is fine now. Still need a few more miles to bed them in I think though.

Sorry to say but , don't expect the lads in a tyre bay to set your tyre pressures to the "correct" pressures UNLESS you tell them what you want in them and stand there and watch them do it. They're under intense pressure them selves most of the time to kick your car out and get the next one in. Plus, and I know I might regret saying this but, these guys aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer.

Disagree Tony. You are paying for a service and they should set them to the pressure recommended by the car manufacturer for the size of wheels. If you run at different presures as to whats recommended then i agree they dont need to, but should be set to at least recommended presures.

Just been looking on oponeo at Falkens as I need 2 new rears, ZE 914 has a slightly better rating than 453s

Which should I go for? Previously had 452s
