Hi again all,

Hope everyone and their families are doing as well as possible in these very strange times.

I have taken the opportunity to get the z3m back out of storage and do the little jobs on it I have been meaning to do.

So far I have replaced my factory centre storage box with later hk subwoofer (replaced actual speaker with recommended kicker unit) and installed amp to power it in the factory multistack location in the boot, so it appears totally oem but sounds a whole lot better

Additionally I have wired some under dash footwell led strips to brighten the interior a little when getting in the car at night.

I have also taken the sills off, sent them off to be treated and repainted along with the quarter wings. Whilst that was being done I treated all the underneath box section using flapper disc, rust treatment and POR15 so it should be good for another 20 years. I was surprised how clean it was underneath for its age as I know some models such as e39s really can suffer.

Additionally I have taken the air intake off and I am getting all new seals and bolts for that and replacing any vac hoses underneath that look tired.

Which then brings me to my next job and the source of my next question, so the car has a slight occasional fluff stutter on idle, it's very hard to hear and when you drive it it drives amazingly and doesn't miss or anything but on INPA it is showing a code for injector 3.

So I have replaced the centre injector, firstly with another secondhand unit, no effect, same result, then I thought hmm maybe just as bad, so bought a brand new bosch injector of the same number but the issue is still there and the code is still there.

Any thoughts anyone ?

As a follow up to this

Car had misfire/ engine stutter
Checked codes on BMW Diagnostics, point to Injector number 3
Replaced with brand new injector, codes and fault still present
Checked wiring between injector and ECU, resistance the same as other injectors.
When checking voltage output from Pin 4 for injector 3 of ECU it would seem that for injector 3, it is only outputting voltage of 3.4v whereas all other injectors are getting 3.8v on ignition
Checked pins of ECU for corrosion, none present, electrical contact cleaned, fault still present.

Sent ECU to this company https://www.ecutesting.com/ but they have just phoned back today to say they cant test/ diagnose it so its coming back, little bit lost

Just did a bit of quick (not very in depth) searching and others having this issue say their ECUs were knackered.

Thank you for the reply @Nodzed much appreciated, no not really they said they escalated it to the R and D department and have been unsuccessful testing it. Do you or anyone know of anyone who is good at working with these ECUs? And really I did try and look around the forum for similar issues but most people with idle problems seem to point to vacuum loss or Vanos, both of which have been done and I couldn't seem to find anyone with injector code like mine. I am rubbish with computers though so I apologise if I have missed something glaringly obvious

Plenty of similar issues not with the S50 that I found but other BMW 6 cylinder engines so it not an isolated occurance

I have done a bit more searching as you advised and found a few that seem to suggest ecu as you say, which is good as it gives me confidence in my diagnosis originally. Just got to find someone to fix it now, i have approached a few more companies I found on Google, will have to wait for the results. I will do my best to update the thread as it goes along, thanks for your help so far.

I've not had any ECU problems, so can't help.

I can't really understand why the ECU company can't help you, unless they have lost the experience, as these cars are getting quite old now.

Hello all,

As a thread update, the ecu has now returned from the repair company and as thought that has resolved the issue

Thanks all
