I've just come across some expert on youtube predicting that there may be snow on the way for high ground in the north. I realise this may come as a surprise for some. I mean, snow in winter? That wasn't a perfectly good education utterly wasted, then.

(where's the tw@ emoji gone)

s'not winter

As per metoffice.gov.uk
By the meteorological calendar, the first day of winter is always 1 December; ending on 28 (or 29 during a Leap Year) February.
Actually, here in Crow Valley we haven't had snow in maybe 5 years. When it did snow it was about 1 foot deep so I rushed into the garage to build a sledge and when I came out the snow had all melted. We don't get snow like we did in the old days. So, personally, I'd like a bit of snow to look out at.

Years ago I lived in the north of germany and when it snowed it SNOWED. And around that time the green party were in the coalition government and they banned salt on the roads saying that it harmed roadside trees. No. Seriously. It's true. Anyway. It snowed and SNOWED and the snow on the roads was thicker and thicker. Autobahns and main roads got ploughed but B roads didn't and the traffic wore ruts in the ice so you could drive along with your hands off the wheel like on rails. Dozen of cars in convoy with everyone not actually steering. Only problem was when you wanted to turn off you were in trouble if there was not an 'off rut' and you'd just have to keep going and hope to find some other way to where you wanted to go.

But is it 'officially' winter yet? I thought we were still in autumn?

I'm a winter baby, and can't wait for the cold/snow to arrive. Pity we don't get enough of the stuff...or for long enough for my tastes ☃

Weather warning in place for "light snow showers" where I am! Not a cloud in the sky!

It's all gone a bit dramatic, what with naming weather fronts when it's a bit windy and weather warnings for frost in winter.
No wonder most of us have 'mental health issues' with all the scaremongering that is on every corner!

We only have mental heath issues because it's expected of us these days.
Back to the days when you shrugged your shoulders and got on with life.

Celebrities are using this to increase sales etc. By admitting the 'embarrassing' truth they attempt to establish the trust and sympathy of their audience.

Little Johnny's not the man his Father was for sure....do your crying in the rain son.

Drivers in Cumbria say they’re in stop start traffic for 19 hours and have had no food or water. WHY?

No flask of coffee or bags of crisps, even bottles of water? Not much sympathy here.

Tony.

Saw that Tony, and tbh not really surprised. Folks are used to just being able to get stuff instantly, so no need to plan for anything. Also in this country were never really far form being able to re supply anything, so the mindset is established. Add in lack of common sense and a crisis occurs.

One woman had to ration her supply of water as its running low !!!! She surounded by the stuff and easy to top up the supply. Fill the bottle with snow and let it melt in ya car - re do as neccessary. A day or so without food wont be that serious and will probably do most of them good to lose a little.

We had to go and tow Jacks car out this morning. He'd had to dump it in the middle of his cul-de-sac as he needed to get to work, a colleague picked him up in there 4x4. He lives 10 minutes away and although my XC90 is an extremely capable car in this weather Jue still insisted we took, wellies, a snow scoop and warm clothing incase. Just takes a minute to get sorted.

I normally only put my kettle and camping stove in the boot for Summer Car Shows, I'm sensing a business opportunity here . . . 😂😂🤣

Seriously, being stuck for that length of time (I've only had a couple of 4 hours) isn't fun, but why is it always somebody else's job to provide for you . . .

Years ago I was driving in my Open Manta one evening down to Hildesheim to pick up me Matra from the dealer and hurrying along coz I wanted to get there before closing time. It started raining and the rain froze making the autobahn a sheet of ice. All the traffic stopped and after a few hours I musta nodded off. Woke up about 8pm and the traffic in front of me had gone. So of I went too. Looking back in my mirror the cars behind me weren't moving. They must have all nodded off too. Motorway musta been backed up all the way to hamburg.

Edit: Opel Manta (Not Open Manta)

Just a brief word of warning. In the latest bit I've seen, some muppet, sorry, "manager" from the Highways Agency has advised, and I quote, "if you find yourself in an unsafe or vulnerable situation and need assistance please contact the emergency services". Which is handy, because I was considering stripping naked and running round in circles in the snow. Still, with "experts" around dispensing advice I shall avoid that mistake. Hurrah for pointless tw@s.
