Another issue with the new car.. sometimes when I change up from 1st gear to 2nd, as my foot goes back on the gas it starts to kangaroo.. l have to gently 'tease' the pedal to prevent this. Also done it pulling away from lights in 1st gear this eve.. l felt like shaking stevens lol? Anyone got any ideas?
I bought my Z4 three weeks ago and although I drove back from Swansea to my home in Blackpool I didn't really push the car at all. Based on previous problems I've experienced after picking up a new car (this includes even brand new ones) I always go through the same routine. The dealers get the car in and its stop start, stop start, forecourt to showroom, showroom to forecourt, the cars always have the minimum fuel in the tank so therefore the battery is on the verge of depletion and at best it has the lowest grade cheapest fuel in the tank possible.
After returning home with my new Z4 I experienced a kind of cough when I set off from the lights. Nothing like a kangaroo jump but when the time came for it to change up there was a long delay between second engaging and it actually setting off again under power.
Ok down to the local petrol station and filled up to the top with 97 octane fuel as opposed to 95 octane. Out onto my favourite local road that runs past Weeton Army Barracks. Push gear selector to the left, select 1st with the flappy paddle, clench buttocks firmly against the leather I then press the accelerator in a downwards direction towards the floor of the car. When foot reaches the floor keep pushing hard until you feel the heel of your shoe scraping along the tarmac. Oh! and don't forget to change up through the gears with the flappy paddle thingies whilst fighting the urge to evacuate your bowels onto your nice leather seats as the car imitates the acceleration of a scalded cat. Oh and don't forget to turn that round thingy in front of you when you get to the bends or you won't get round them and then all your hard work has been for nothing.
In a nutshell the Zed was made to be driven and when stupid old muppets like me get their hands on them the rev counter becomes redundant which is not a problem if you understand the basics. An apple a day keeps the doctors away? Once a month take your car out and DRIVE IT!. Top speed is unimportant but keep the revs HIGH! Get all the fluids flowing around your engine at the rate of flow your engine was designed for and clear out all the gunge that builds up in the pipes.
You will also find that your mpg improves as well as you heart rate? You don't have to believe me but just do it................
Ok back to the brandy?
