lighting problem...

well guys, another issue has popped up for me, I seem to have lost my low beams...
first off it was that they didn't turn off so I took out fuses 11 and 12 so as not to run the battery down, I went to scrap yard to pick up a new switch and put that in, there was no light now... I took apart my old switch and had a look at the pcb board and all was ok, springs on contacts were ok so put it back together and swapped it for the new one, same issue but with the lights off this time...
I checked for power on the block connectors for the lights and there was none, checked for power on fuses 11 and 12 and there was none, then checked power to fuse 25 and there was power, so, I am guessing there is a relay between fuse 25 and 11 and 12 that may be sticking... any ideas? thank you

ok, after a bit of research I see there is a low beam relay so I am going to try get my hands on one of them and see if this will fix the problem..

dropped in to the scrap yard this morning to get a relay, fitted it and job is oxo

ahh its grand man, thanks, just glad of the internet and glad to be able to have sorted I myself I scaredshitless of electrics and had to put my thinking cap on for this one, but job done, just a few more minor problems left thanks hard top ;-)

Had a 1999 728 in for test the other day, no dip beam. Needed 2 bulbs! EASY fix.

lol I was hoping it would be that easy Tony but I checked the bulbs and they were fine

I guessed as much Dave. Years ago I worked at a Chrysler dealership and the 2nd generation Alpines had a nasty habit of when a dip beam bulb blew it took the other one out with it. But another quirk they had was if you were careful with the dip switch you could have both dip and main beams on at the same time, and boy were they good lights. Must have had some good wiring though.

lol, well I guess with the parallel setup the light that was left on got a few extra amps to it and blew... I guess a resistor in the circuit would have helped ;-)
