Hi all I am excited about a refurb currently underway, pictures to come on a separate post, the question I have is when I get my new wheels back from refurb all nice and shiny, should I treat them/coat them and if so what with to try to protect from that brake dust and every thing else...?

They are being stripped primed, painted, lacquered and baked if it makes a difference.

Hey mate, bet you're looking forwards to getting those wheels back. I remember when @billz got his new wheels he prepped them with coats of something but I can't for the life of me remember what he used.

If they painted and laquered then regular cleaning is fine - ie don't leave brake dust on for weeks to eat into the surface.
That said waxing them makes the easier to clean - there are so many wheel waxes and sealants...I just use what I use for the body collinite 452 liquid which is easy on/off but not as hard wearing.
G technique is highly rated stuff but must be applied correctly- the resident detailers will advise I'm sure.

On these other hand If it's bare lips and multi spokes the best way to care for them is leave them in the lounge on display, permanently...:)

Which wheels are they?

I coat my wheels with Poorboys Wheel Sealer. I gave some to @Rha Roy and we both think it is good. Makes the wheel cleaning a lot easier

Ok thank guys @Dino D I remembered you had waxed yours but I couldn't remember what with. As for style pictures to follow; but it has to do with a 300+mile round trip I did last weekend. Pictures tonight of them in the lounge I promise if all goes well.

I normally use Poorboys wheel sealant as well and put a couple of coats on but find it doesn't last that long. Used Collinite 476 also in the past which was slightly better I thought. Just coat them with some sort of wax before they go on and keep them clean with normal shampoo that you wash the car with. If you clean them regularly you won't have any problems and shouldn't get any baked on brake dust or tar etc.

Poorboys along with red stuff pads all round and I'm only washing them lightly for nearly two years now. Peaks cruise was 350 miles and brake dust was only just evident, thanks again Bill @billz probably one of the better Birthday gifts I got that year apart from the great turnout at Silverstone.
Just look at the wheels after going round Tony's @t-tony rally route with all the muddy puddles and travelling behind @Antm72 and @Andy McDonnell trying their hardest to get my Z dirty, (my fav pic that doesn't show the dirt on paintwork) and the wheels treated with poorboys.

"No it hasn't just been washed, Tony's drive is well drained as can be seen in pic".

Yeah I am with you there @Stevo7682 they had my Z3 wheels a few years ago and they looked amazing. These will hopefully replace my 108's on my Z4 and it's not a completely standard finish. They are at Lepsons in Gillingham Kent. As it's a new set I can still drive the car and it's been top down all week here, I can wait.

I just use the same wax that goes on the bodywork, just rub it on and polish off, after all they are painted/coated so similar finish. Don't use polish as most do have some cut in them, and the protection comes from wax. Then just wash as normal, the wax should last the same sort of time as on the bodywork :)

Tried wheel sealers before, and tbh not that impressed really, found the wax as good if not better, and you should have that anyway

Well wow top job from Lepsons - I am sure not to everyone's taste but I think they look spot on. standard Z4 wheel BMS BBS staggered 107's in black chrome (two tone) at collection and in the box. One the car will be next week

Very nice. It's an awesome wheel but needs a custom finish like this to lift it. hard to Photograph as it changes. Looking forward to seeing it in.

Hey @Dino D first and only time my wheels will be allowed in the lounge according to Debs. So a picture - although she did suggest a piece of glass on one as a coffee table. But my Zed would be limping then.

I was a little worried being dark inside as I am not a black wheel fan, but I think it works
