Lost Radio Code

After a long spell of relaxing in the garage having first aid, my z3 is back on the road and I am loving it!
Only problem is that my radio won't work because the battery was removed during storage.
I have tried contacting the main dealer to try and get the code but apparently this is no longer available for a 1999 Z3.
Youtube shows that I need to remove the whole set from the dash to be able to get the serial number, but if no one keeps the codes anymore, I am not sure how this will help.
So, has anyone in a similar situation managed to find where to get the code or how to fix it without pulling everything out of the dash?
I did see one tip about holding some of the buttons down for an hour!

You need either the code or the serial number to lookup the code. If you don't have them written down anywhere you will need to remove the unit. You may be lucky and the code number is written on it. But the serial number should be there unless the label is damaged/removed.

Once you have that drop me a PM and can advise how to go about getting the code.

It's 2 hex (might be Torx) bolts under the flip caps on the sides. They are captive so won't fall out. Then you just pull forward. Simple and no need to detach cables. You're not going to do it any other way.

I bought a radio and cd changer with no code .
There is a place Soundmaster Scotland near one of the depots I work in he said that the code is stored on the eprom ( electronics way over my head ) nuts and bolts more my thing and he could read that .
Gave me the unit back with a code card works fine.
Stephen.

It can certainly be done that way. But I think you’d be paying typically around £30 for that. A code lookup nearly always works and is £0-5 typically. As long as you don’t go to a rip off site.
