Hi all, new to this so bear with me, recent purchase of a Z3m roadster and it has a cracked spring and was considering replacing all 4 springs with something to reduce the ride height. I do not however want to ruin the ride and the car to drive like a skate board , I have looked at Eibach 20mm lowered springs which are advertised as progressive and retain a decent ride according to the supplier and Hr 30mm springs but have read contradicting things about both. could anyone advise .

Thanks in advance

Jeff

Hi Jeff

Recently put 30mm Eibach springs on my 2.8 on Bilstein B12's. Great ride with plenty of give on normal roads. Did Hardknott Pass a couple of times, a bit rattly but no big issues.

Thanks for the reply Andy and thats good to hear, where did you get the 30mm springs from, only ones I could see were 20mm from Eibach.

Sounds a good price but ideally I am only thinking of changing the springs my pal has shocks and springs on his Z3M and the ride is very hard and it has really put me off, pretty sure he has H&R.

Is his Zed loaded with Poly Bushes? That would make the ride a lot harder?

it could well be, its quite well sorted. my car however will never see a track it is 100% for road use.
Mine also. I think the BMW Sport springs from the 2.2 are 20mm lower though I stand to be corrected.

BMW Sport springs are 15mm lower than standard ;)

You don't have to ruin the ride when you lower, but you may want to consider new shocks with the new springs if you don't know how old the shocks are on it. May be past their best, which will just make things horrible when you lower it!

@Nodzed is just having the entire suspension changed on his Imola red Z3M. Similar setup as he has on his first one, think it's Koni springs with Eibach B8s. I'm sure he'll drop by now I've tagged him!

Hi there. I have a m. Just had the zedshed do the suspension. 30mm lowering kit from koni which I bought from demontweaks.
You def need to replace the shocks as well imo. Kit was around a grand.
You can dial in the stiffness yourself so could set it up really soft if you like.

@JeffC
Hi there, I put my M on Spax and Bilsteins, the Spax are sold as -30mm but the M is already 15mm lower than a standard Z3 so in fact lowers it 15mm, nice and subtle lowering without dropping it on the floor. I went for Bilstein B8 as they are made for use with lowered springs and are an aggressive damper. The ride is firm but not too harsh, the handling is however astonishing. I was so pleased with the setup that I have done the same to the second M.

The photo of the silver M in my sig is after lowering so that will give you an idea.

I have H&R springs on mine and the ride is fine, however, these came with the koni sport kit which also has new adjustable dampers. You may find that the damping rate is too low with the stiffer lower springs with standard shocks.
