Hi all, got this done over the weekend.
Manifold from Gumtree, bbtb from ebay, and fitting kit from m50manifold.com, sent from across the pond.
I was very pleased with the fitting kit, all quality parts and nice detailed instructions included.
It took me 2 afternoons, but I take my time and clean up bits as I go along.
It's not too bad once you get going.
That rear most manifold bolt is a pain though!

New vs old.

Kept everything labeled

Had a bit of a panic and fuel leak when I put it all back together, one of the injector o rings got snagged when I was disassembling, only noticed after a bit of a fountain! (I had an extinguisher on hand as per instructions)

I managed to get a new o ring from dealer yesterday though, and gave them all a very light greasing, this helped reassembly a lot.

So all sorted and triple checked hoses and connections. I also refitted the stock airbox with new filter as the po's k&n was a bit worse for wear.

So started fine and nice smooth idle. Impressions... Very very good. Engine feels so bad much more 'free' and characteristics changed. Pulls so hard and goes and goes..

I had this & remap on my 328i a few years ago, and when I got this z it did feel a little.. Restricted. Well very happy now, much more fun to drive in my opinion. I'll let the ecu settle with the new setup and go for a remap in the future.

Thanks for the write up. I keep saying to Ant about doing this but my roof is knackered so that has to take priority for now.

It is probably one of the best and cheapest mods you can do to the 2.8

Dave You would not notice the difference if you did the Manifold Upgrade =))

For people referring to price, breakdown is-

£100 manifold, Gumtree, Inc postage

£90 bbtb (got this as an m52 bored out an extra few mm, although reading online, differences of just this mod are negligible)

$250 fitting kit, Inc postage and custom fees from USA. I wanted a kit and not a faff with b&q diy bits, although I did look into this. This also includes very good instructions with pictures.

Sorry not exactly very cheap, but well worth it for me. Remap will also be £200 at least, so chunk of money, but you basically have a new car after.
