Well with all this talk of performance for air intake, what about the free flow of exhaust gases out too. Does the ceramic coating make any difference to keep the engine bay cooler and the gases hotter to get them out. Has anybody seen these coatings ? I used exhaust wrap on my old Zodiac to keep the engine bay cooler so wondering what gains might be if any ? Thoughts ?

This is just my personal opinion. Keeping temps down is always good but ceramic coating is getting into the realms of minor changes for race car people. It is nice but I have never heard or seen anyone make any actual statements on the reduction in temperature in the engine bay. And then how much do you need to lower the engine bay temperature to get a power increase.

It is nice and I would only be looking at it if I had a large amount of spare cash laying around.

Up to 15 percent is a big difference then guaranteed 15 percent. And I wouldn't want to touch something that was 500 degrees or 575 degrees. It all helps but does the cost justify the gains.

Paul dont drive fast enough anyway to make a difference. I can see it being more beneficial to racecars.

You'll be better with a 6 branch to speed up the gas flow and take out some of the exhaust restrictions.

we put a 6 branch exhaust manifold on my sons E36 coupe which has the M52 single vanos 2.8 engine.
It previously had the inlet manifold changed to the M50 one, which made a significant difference.

The exhaust manifold was off the M engine,
Made no difference whatsoever, apparently the extra weight counteracts any gains on the 2.8 engine.

What about the rest of the exhaust system was that changed? They are massively restrictive. I have mine laid out on the floor and it’s amazing to see.

I was looking into doing this and decided against it.

1. Stainless steel exhausts can crack if not allowed to cool. Thermal cracking.
2. Not enough bang for buck. £1000 to get it done properly on two manifolds. I did consider using wrap, but decided against it due to (1).
3. The heat has to go somewhere, and I wasn't sure of the unintended consequences. There was mention of potential overheating further down the exhaust.
4. The engine bay heat can be reduced by using an aluminium plate above the exhaust manifold. This would still allow the exhaust to cool naturally.

I've done quite a lot of work on my exhausts... (https://zroadster.org/threads/performance-is-exhausting.22941/) :D

Thing rusted away anyway the time it took you to change it

Didn't Toyota do this on the mr2 engine I beleve having talked a friend who was a Toyota mechanic it had disasterouse
Results as the ceramic broke up and many owners have had to pay for it to be removed
