There are very few aircraft in the history of aviation as unique and innovative as the Messerschmitt Me 262.
This was created out of desperation. It was needed for the War and was considered a masterpiece of technology. It had a massive impact in the world of aviation when it first launched in 1944 in European skies.

This footage shows you a variety of scenes of the Me-262 in flight – this is the only one in the world still capable of flight.

The Allies did have the Meteor but did not want to risk them falling into the hands of the Germans due to their short range. However the Meteor was used in battle games to work out the right tactics for the Mustangs guarding the bombers.

Thanks for sharing that. ME 262 has always been one of my favourite aeroplanes, love the shark shape. The restored one has lost its swastika though. Is this still banned in Europe?:)

Great link @mwpe

This is from Mike's link:

The modern Luftwaffe flies with a variant of the Iron Cross on its aircraft, which both predates and outlived the Nazi regime. On the other hand, the builders chose not to include the Hakenkreuz (Swastika) on the tail of any aircraft because of the extremely negative connotation.

The aircraft operating in Germany was purchased by the Messerschmitt Foundation, who fly and display it for historical reasons.
