Modified car insurance

Hi all,

I'm going to have to reinsure the Z3 soon, and this time I'm hoping to make quite a few changes to it (finances permitting).

From the heavily mod'ed owners on here, who uses what insurance companies. When I had the Z3 insured last I was with a company who tolerated certain mods, but I don't honestly think they would be any good for what I have planned (lowered suspension, induction kit, engine tinkering & remap etc).

Thinking I need a specialist like Adrian Flux or the likes. Any suggestions appreciated.

Good post gaz I need to get mine insured for next week but can only really think of Adrian flux too. Just don't want to get ripped off too much I had my bike insured with them before and were quite reasonable.

RH Insurance for me they haven't charged me a penny more...BUT! i don't have any engine mods.

due to reasons known only to the insurance companies my renawal this year will be modification free, paying £400 for the strut bar and allmost £200 to add an induction kit + exhaust (both on top of my normal renewal) means i'll be staying stock. Still tempted to do the m50 manifold conversion as they'd never know even if they checked.

Adrian flux have a bit of a bad rep when it comes to customer service + keeping you in the loop. Depending on how heavily modifies you are some of the dedicated modified insurance companies are usually cheaper.

I'm currently insured with Admiral gaz.. Were the cheapest for my mods..
But I will be having agood hunt round this year..

Cheers both, it will be interesting to see whether it's best/easiest to go with a specialist or a standard insurer.

From experience it certainly can be painful trying to explain what a strut brace is to a phone jockey...

I am with RH Insurance, I have declared a front strut, induction kit and M50 manifold and no increase to premium! The staff on the phone seemed to understand perfectly what the brace and induction kit were, the manifold took a little longer to explain.

They just listed the modifications and said it won't effect the premium, which makes me wonder if they really did understand perfectly!

Have just insured the M with Adrian flux on a classic policy..
Mods declared, 5000 miles, legal, euro cover, all bells and whistles..

Just paid a fist full of money over to Chris Knott Insurance who seemed to be the most reasonable of who I tried today.

An eye watering £540, but that includes protected NCB, legal, personal injury, personal effects (boot only), courtesy car, windscreen etc. It also includes a list of mod's I've given them which have yet to be fitted (30mm suspension drop, induction kit, 18" alloys, engine remap etc).

That said, my last policy for the Z3 was £650 without the mods so something must be going my way... Adrian Flux wanted an extra £70 on top. Bet it's my Swindon post code that bumps my premiums

Now waiting for the cover note to be emailed and then down the post office for a new tax disc!

Don't be tempted by protected Nc bonus I had that on the ///m, I had two claims on different vehicles over three years and the insurance company Adrian flux refused insurance, they said they could not insure me using the existing company they used Aviva X( , resulting in a a hike in price with another company, although I didn't lose my Nc bonus X(

Seemed a sensible idea from my company car driving record, although not had a fault claim since owning my own cars. I say company car driving, more like dodgems - just ask Board for more details

The odd thing I found with Adrian Flux was that they quoted me including the proposed mods as I requested. They then told me I had to have the mods fitted within a month otherwise the premium would increase. The price I was quoted from this company was lower with the mods than without them, so if I didn't fit them, they would have to bump the price up.

I still think my main issue is living near Swindon. SN is not a good post code prefix, despite being in a "Royal" town
