Having tested a Z4 this morning, a seed of thought started to grow. Does anyone know if it's possible to retro fit the radio control switches etc.on the steering wheel to a car made without.
The 56 plate car I had in today has the same "chrome line interior" steering wheel as my car and the switches would fit straight onto it, then I assume it would be a case of connecting cables from switch to stereo

Tony.

Not sure Tony. I didn't think the 4 has a standard wiring loom in like the 3. That's not to say you couldn't run the required wire in though. Anything is possible, just depend how much work is involved.

I would imagine there is an interface and the difference is probably in the slip ring on the steering wheel.
I looked at this as the e46 has steering controls and the wheel is the same as the zeds.
It is a possible mod but only with certain types and again a slip ring change/mod.
I imagine the retro fit to be slightly easier on the 4 just parts.

Don't know about the z4 but Ash had installed a switched wheel in his z3 if I recall correctly! Can't see why it can't be accomplished with your genius. JIM
