I'm terrible at fiddly things and i managed to do it ok.
The idea is to not mess with the needles so you have to cut away the old gauges. I ended up just cutting away the bits that block the light shining through.
I saw a thread on another forum and he just stuck it over the top, but unless you replace the bulbs with high-powered LED's it wouldn't let enough light through.

IF you do remove the needles you have to certain where they need to go back by marking their position somehow. I think yours was a better option TBH.

How did you install the new gauges without removing the needles? Have you taken any illuminated shots? Looks great...

Thanks :)
Well to do it without taking the needles off I did a proper bodge job and just cut away as much of the old black dials as possible.
The new dials slide over the needles.
I wasn't careful enough with the temp gauge and it has moved(so "normal" temp is at the 1/4 point rather than at the 1/2 point).

I haven't taken any illuminated pics, they are quite dim but they always were. Could do you with some nice LED bulbs

You can re position the needles, they simply pull off the spindles. The main thing is to note precisely where they were positioned when you pull them off.
