Just went into town and back the scenic route :ymdevil: and I noticed after overtaking a much slower car on a quick straight road (well you have to...) the engine warning light had come on. Read the codes when I got back.
2C6E After Cat O2 sensor ageing
2A82 Control input-VANOS Bank 2

Was unable to clear these codes but will have another try - it seems they don't always clear at first attempt.
Am due MOT in 6 weeks so I suspect I'm in for some work to be done - just trying to establish what and how much.

2C6E I suspect is a simple replace - I expect there are two, one on each bank. I presume its best to do both at the same time.
2A82 seems to be VANOS solenoids which may just need cleaning or may need replacing.

Anybody done either of these?
Roughly how much if I take it to an Indy.
I presume the MOT is unlikely to pass with a fault light on the dash and likely emissions implications....

You should be able to work out which one it is as Bank 1 is Cylinders 1 to 3 and Bank 2 is 4 to 6. BMW Will not give you a part number as the Parts are not listed for which Bank they belong to, so they say it needs to go in to be Diagnosed. I took mine to my local Indie who specialises in BMWs. BMW want £220 just for the sensor

I found an Indy right by work. They do race prep cars but service a lots of sports cars. Most there are bmw trained and the head honcho's brother is someone big at Park Lane BMW. They should be able to sort it I'd have thought. Think I'll give them a try. Thanks

Just so 's you know Ian, provided the emissions pass ok ( and they could well do) the EM light on is not a reason for failure like such as ABS or ESP.

I'm thinking the sensor is enough to push the emissions over the top. But I was wondering if the vanos sensor was enough to trip the o2 sensor. Am sure these are the same faults I had a few months ago. I was going to have it serviced anyway including all the fluids done. That might be cut back a little but I'd rather know everything was new.

New code reader delivered today and soon hooked up.

Both codes now cleared so will wait and see if and when they come back.
I suspect its the vanos solenoid causing the problem. Its appeared once going over a bump in the road and I think the last time was on acceleration. The O2 sensor code I suspect is a by-product (i.e. its overfuelling and then not reading what was expected because the vanos not behaving) but its quite likely to be on its way out anyway.
Just hoping I'm feeling better and can get out for a drive tomorrow. Not been out except for 5m since I picked the car up from Russ 10 days ago :-(

It was bank 2 - same as the vanos code. Am surprised they are different parts on each side. I can only image its down to the space available. Of course that means more dosh to replace them.
