Hi, When my husband suggested we buy an old 1997 Z3 on craigslist with a blown engine, I had no idea the path it would lead me down. He's always been a BMW car nut, and he suggested this would be fun (and the Z3 would be mine : ) So he got our 18 yr old son involved, and now we are deep into tearing the whole car down and restoring it. I'm actually having fun hanging out with the boys in the garage and taking on parts of the work myself. I'm finding myself watching YouTube videos on how to do this and that. The guys are almost ready to put in the new engine. We also are putting on new struts and other front end stuff. I've pulled off the interior trim pieces as they were nasty, and am doing some rvinyl interior trim replacements. We have the seats out as one had a big tear in the leather with a poor patch job. We got a new back for the chair and I'm putting that on (and doing the seat bushings). We took the trim pieces out of the trunk and exposed 3 mouse nests! I cleaned that up and we put anti-rust paint in the floor of the trunk under the battery area and such. We also put special paint on the transmission, strut tower caps (not sure what they are really called), lollipops, and various places in the engine compartment that have rust potential. She had an updated sound system that the previous owner put in back in 2005, but the rear speakers were not working. So we got a new blue tooth enabled satellite ready radio, and are going to test the 600W amp that they had in this thing with some other speakers to see if we can rattle the windows. She will need paint, but her soft top is in excellent condition.
There's more....sagging glove box fix, electric fan swap out, and a new rebuilt diesa valve? (not sure what that is but I understand it's good to fix), roll bars.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing other people's projects and am excited to get to the point where I/we can drive her! Jill and Bry

Having read your post I'm leaning towards thinking you are in the USA?
Anyway, wherever you are, welcome from me near Lincoln, UK.

Tony.

Wow, quite a family affair, great project something for everyone involved to turn their hand to.
As @t-tony has said we suspect you are in the USA, since we are Worldwide on here its a good idea to update your User details to show your location and exact model of car so it appears in the left hand column of your posts when viewed on a Laptop and expands on your user details when expanded on a phone. You could also add these details in as a signature so they always appear in your posts. Assists us when answering your questions and you may have another member close by if you ever need a hand with anything. Don't forget to post some pictures of the finished car.

Thanks for the Tips! I'll update my Profile. We are in the USA, and she is a 1.9L Roadster with a soft top (1997).
