Hi everyone, I'm Tim and we bought a 1999 silver 2.0l Z3 a month ago. Never had a soft stop before, but always wanted one! I grew up in Abingdon and remember seeing (and wanting) all the MGBs, so I guess having the Z3 is my "modern day" equivalent.

Car seems to be in really good condition, 62000 miles. There is rust where the sills meet the wheel arches so I am going to treat those areas and fingers crossed it wont spread.

Really looking forward to doing some longer drives now the weather has picked up.

Hello and welcome from South Devon.

I fully restored a 73 MGB roadster when I was in my 20s just before they done the full shells, taught myself gas welding (pre mig).

:welcome: - the sill cover leading and rear edges are a weak spot on the Z3 and many of us have treated and ended up replacing. The actual inner sills are usually fine but it is worth checking them out.

Just so you don’t get too worried-the ends of the sill covers are a only ‘weak spot’ on the Z3 in the sense that they are prone to rust, but they are not in any sense a structural weak spot as they are purely cosmetic bolt/on items. The inner sill provides all of the structural integrity, and they are like girders in comparison.

Hi Tim and :welcome: to the forum from me too in Stafford. As said above the sills you can see are not structural but they all rust where yours have.

:welcome: If the sill ends are your only issue then you have a good Z3 but just in case dust off the credit card.=))

Welcome from Abingdon. I have two rebodies and when building the second one, the sills almost fell off due to rust. The inner sills/jacking points were solid with some surface rust. Bilthamber Ge-Ox, zinc primer, satin black from a rattle can and then Waxoyl sorted that.
