Next generation Z4

Was just reading this article about the next version of the Z4. Interesting comment: "The handling will be improved by creating a more balanced Z4 that takes advantage of the smaller and lighter four-cylinder engines."

I think the answer to this question is "yes" from a gravitational and physical perspective.
However unless you drive it up around the red line ALL the time you may find it a lot lacking in the power to weight ratio

on my comment was entirly tounge in cheek, and i do wish i had a bit more grunt at times.

Many a true word spoken in jest etc but in this case it happens to be true
The 4-pots sit behind the front axle which significantly moves the centre of gravity rearwards when compared to the 6 cylinder engines.

i do wish i had a bit more grunt at times

I've always thought the 4 cylinder Z3s are better balanced and handle more precisely than the 6 Cylinder ones. I've owned both, so i've had a good chance to compare them.

There's nowt wrong with the 1.9, with the engine being smooth it loves to be revved when needed, its not a hot hatch but perfectly acceptable in everyday traffic.

Going back to the E89 Z4, I would take the article with a pinch of salt, the trademark is the long bonnet of any Zed so it doesn't quite figure in making it shorter without changing the concept. The latest 4 cyl engines are already well behind the front axle making it 50/47 weight distribution. I can see BMW could shorten the front end as there is plenty of space in front of the engine. I feel BMW should shrink the current Z4 to Z3 proportions.

I went from an E36 318 to an E36 323 and the weight difference was very noticeable. I think handling wise the 318 was much better, could chuck it about much more and it was just so much more nimble than the 323 on the twisties
