P.S. Sorry, I know this is the wrong forum for this discussion, so happy for you to remove it...
Threads been destroyed several times already, may as well just leave it here in all its shame... :(

I don't think the thread was destroyed, if you read back the OP went with the banter as well as a few others, so it was just the course of the conversation. How often do you jump into a crowd in a pub and stop the conversation because it has gone off topic...you don't, this is no different IMO.

A technical thread is different, but then again my build thread goes off at many tangents from different people and was not moderated, perhaps it should have been, it did not matter to me though, as it bought humour into the subject. but does raise the question if there differing standards set depending on who you are?

Although I have no "right" to comment on moderation of topical threads,I have to agree here. My Sept 11th meet thread has several points where it goes astray, but it always gets back on point and the "off topic" parts usually just add to the social nature of our forum, and the meet itself on the day.
However if something which could be taken as offensive is posted then maybe it should be removed, I'm as guilty as most for wandering off topic and don't envy Gaz the job of being the shepherd here but I honestly don't think anyone deliberately sets out to be offensive.

Tony.

Moved these posts to the feedback section...

I am sick and fed up of threads descending in to smutty bar room knob measuring competitions. I personally don't like bad language being used here, and I don't particularly like the smutty innuendo either - which is why it's written in to the rules. What? We have rules here? Good lord...

Sadly so many choose to ignore the rules and post what the hell they like, and then have a go at me for not being a good sport when I move their posts. Lets not forget they get moved to somewhere more appropriate, not deleted.

I spend countless hours on here a week moving threads to the correct place, and then tidying up others which have gone off topic. I then have to deal with stuff that I really don't want to see on the public facing part of the forum. I really don't know what the problem is, there is a whole section for knob measuring competitions.

I don't have the hours in the day to keep every thread tidy, and I have to accept that some will get taken off topic - but there is a "Report" button underneath every single post if people want to raise issues with specific threads.

At the end of the day a group of adults should be able to interact with each other, and follow a simple set of rules which have proved successful for over 4 years.

Self moderation is the key, not a nanny state, inappropriate language has no place ( you know who you are x 2), but humour will always have a place...

If people don't like it, turn off, click disagree or report it, or you can join .net...
